When Evelyn was first born, I planned my weeks around when I would definitely get to shower. I mean, I showered every day--not that I'm judging anyone who doesn't make that a priority during the newborn phase, certainly, but I just don't function well without a shower. But, I'd think "Okay, my mom will be here on Wednesday so I can shower once she gets here, but on Tuesday I'm going to have to get up and shower before M leaves, just in case the baby is awake or wakes up while I'm in there." (Because clearly, she would have been scarred for life if she woke up and had to wait up to five minutes for me to come get her! One's standards do tend to relax after a few years, don't they?) Anyway, we eventually got into a pattern where M would wake me up half an hour before he left for work so I'd have a chance to get a shower. That's worked great for a very long time--I wake her up at 8:30 so I'd even get a few minutes to check my email and/or have breakfast. For some reason, over the last few weeks, I have started deviating from that plan. He'd still come wake me up but I would be like that teenager that you can't do anything with, and I'd just burrow down into the covers and refuse to get up. Every morning! And I knew that I was doing it and I knew that I needed to get up, but somehow, just.. no. And here's the shocker... the world also didn't end because I started sleeping in! I just... get more sleep! It's wonderful! Except I also don't get those peaceful minutes first thing in the morning all to myself, so I'm thinking of going back to the Routine. It is just so not me. So far it's worked out that I get up and shower before she wakes up most of the time anyway. and the days that she doesn't? I get morning snuggle time. What's not to love? :) She's big enough now that she doesn't really require supervision for me to jump in the shower anyway, though I don't prefer it that way. Today, she showered with me but I also don't prefer that because I am blind as a bat without my glasses.

How on earth did I have so much to say on this topic?

How about some good/bad news? Our camera is dead! WOOHOO! Except for the expense of replacing it, this is kind of fabulous because we just don't really like this camera. It's been a hassle for us in one way or another since before it even arrived (what with receiving the wrong camera from the company and dealing with sending it back, etc.) So we get to buy a new one! Looks like I'd be researching this right now because we really need to replace it ASAP, doesn't it? I have never actually had a camera break. The last one had battery issues, where it'd constantly be running out of batteries, but it still worked. This one suddenly lost its ability to focus. I find the ability to take pictures where you can see the subject of the photo in more than a large colorful megablur pretty important but I have noticed that I'm unusually picky about stuff like that. Now I just have to keep reminding myself that I don't really want to pay $800 for a camera that is too big to fit in my purse and we'll be fine. Anyone have a camera they love?

On the down side, that means that I can't take pictures of my quilt, which I've been spending all my free time on for the last week or two. I did successfully put together a sewing area in the sunroom, and E does like to play out there, so I can even sneak a little time during the day to do it. Mainly, I've been sewing at night and cutting fabric and sorting tools and stuff during the day, so far. I have eight blocks done, ironed and squared and everything. I have a patchwork pattern planned for the back with different fabrics, so I can't start sewing the pieces together until they're done. Let's just hope that it all works out the way it's supposed to and that my machine will let me sew through that many layers. I do have an idea about how to assemble it if it won't, but it will require a lot more work from me so let's just hope it doesn't come to that. Oh, and I bought a cutting mat with slotted lines cut into it, which has greatly improved my quality of life. Oh, how I love that thing. I don't know. We'll see how it goes but I'm a little afraid the quilting bug might stick around this time. I've been holding it at bay for YEARS because it's expensive and time consuming and laborious and oh yeah, I hate quilting stuff (as in, the actual step of quilting the final product.) I can also see where I might not want to look at another quilt after I get this one done. :)

M's co-worker is moving and has decided to get rid of a bunch of stuff that she had at her current house for her nieces, since she won't have room for it at her new house. I think there might be some sort of family issue going on because one would think that she would give that stuff directly to the nieces, but instead, she is giving it to Evie. Yay! M came home with boxes of stuff both Monday and Tuesday, and he has a few more items today that I haven't even seen yet. A few Barbies, a Bratz doll, a Strawberry Shortcake house with doll, a small Cinderella (Polly Pocket size) with horse and carriage, dolls, purses, Tinkerbell clock, a Furby, a furry princess telephone, a doll stroller, a talking Ernie, a three-foot-tall giraffe, books, a tea set, two feather boas, a puzzle, a princess chair, a pillow, stuffed animals, play doh, picture frames, silk flowers, a vacuum, a bulletin board... I can't remember what else. Evie thinks that she has hit the jackpot, as you might imagine. The vacuum is real--the co-worker was going to buy them a pretend vacuum and then found that they were about the same price as a real one so she just bought a tiny real one instead. It's the kind with a detachable dustbuster, but the whole thing is perfectly sized for a kid. It's nice stuff, too, probably because the nieces don't live with her and most of it looks like it hasn't been used much.

The real shocker, though, is that she also has an outdoor playhouse to give her. It's supposed to look like this one at Toys R Us except without the dormer and big door on the side. Not only that, but she said they would deliver it to us, as we don't have a truck. They live at least thirty minutes from here, so that's especially nice. We haven't told Evie about that part because it might fall through, but...!!!! I know some people just aren't into having yard sales for small stuff like this, but I'm sure she could have sold the playhouse on Craigslist or something, or we could have at least arranged to borrow my dad's truck to come pick it up. But no, any weekend in the next month that we're home, she can deliver the house. I'm refusing to get too excited about this because it's too good to be true but I'll let you know if it actually happens. I know someone who would LOVE IT, don't you?
