I fear the plague has gotten a foothold in my house. So far, it's mostly confined to the smallest and germiest of the bunch, but I have suspicions that I'll be the next to fall. Evelyn's birthday was Thursday, and I purposefully kept her out of the childcare place at the gym--conveniently for me, of course--so that I could help ensure that she wouldn't be sick on her birthday, or for her party, which was yesterday. She managed it but barely. She went home with Granny on Thursday and came back for her party on Sunday, She was coughing yesterday and she acted a little down, but the sick didn't arrive until today. I think she's fairly miserable.
Our party went well yesterday. It was a family only sort of thing, as our kid parties always are, and the outrageous kid parties are not really in vogue here anyway, so it was pretty low-key. I did put a bit of effort into making her rainbow theme stick, with the rainbow-swirled ice cream cake with a m&m rainbow on top and a giant rainbow painting that E and I painted on the inside of an oversized cardboard box, and yes, a bunch of rainbows cut out by my new Silhouette. :) We played a variation of the fishing game with the giant rainbow--a clip on a string attached to a dowl, and dangled over the rainbow while M attached random items for them to catch. Each kid got four throws and caught two random pieces of junk, one stick of cheese and one bag of candy. The cheese was a completely random choice.. I just thought Evie would want a snack about then but then realized the other kids would want one too if she got one. :) They loved it and there was much enjoyment from the adults watching as well. Even the bigger kids (11 and 13) wanted to play, which I didn't expect. Not a single one of them were in the least fooled about what was going on back there ("Daddy! I'm sorry I smacked you in the head with that!") It was fun.
Just occurs to me that it's been longer than I thought since I posted. Again. Also, I got old! My birthday is the week before Evie's. It was a good day, good birthday. My mom came down to spend the day with me, like she usually does, which was fun. Evie was a bit mean because she was jealous that Mommy got to have a special day. As soon as I figured it out, I started making a big deal out of how she could share my special day, and she eventually settled down. Kids are so silly sometimes. M and my parents bought me the digital cutting machine I mentioned, which I love, and a new hard drive which just arrived today. It's waiting impatiently for my hardware guy to get the kidlet asleep so he can put it in for me. :)
The internet is really boring today. I'm not sure why. I am wishing I had an active LJ friends list again. I am pretty sure that's the main reason I keep forgetting to post anything myself. There have been a few rare days when absolutely no one posts ANYTHING. I used to refresh the page every few minutes and find something. I have been thinking of looking for some new friends to add to perk it up a little, and I would like to meet new people but I ALSO really want to hear from the ones that have moved on. You know? Facebook is great and I love getting small updates from people about what is really going on with them RIGHT NOW but I like in-depth, longer stuff even better. You can't write about personal stuff on Facebook. Well, most people don't. I do have a few people who post things that they probably should not share with the world. :)
In other exciting news, my house is clean and my bathroom is a bathroom again! I've been living in a construction zone for eight months, to greater or lesser degrees. Most of the time, we've had full functionality of the room so it wasn't horrible. it was just.. ugly, or inconvenient. The last thing to get done was the closet, so the worst part was having very limited bathroom storage when I am accustomed to having a giant closet. So, shelves! Shelves make me deliriously happy, apparently. Owning a home makes you excited about strange things. For one thing, if you'd have told me when I was a teenager that I'd ever enjoy going to Lowe's, I wouldn't have believed it.
Interesting. I hate that expression and yet I still used it. Well, interesting to me. Not so much anyone else, I am sure.
