Three days into April and I've already missed one day of posting. That didn't bother me before, but since I have the little blocky calendar now, I like to keep it filled. My parents came down to visit yesterday, though, and then when they left, we were busy for a while (computer games and movies, you know) and by then, I had bigger problems, like keeping my eyes open while I climbed the stairs and brushed my teeth. I am curiously easily affected by cold medication.

I keep making these ineffective protestations about how I don't want to write about being sick, but the problem with that is that there is not much else in my world these days. An earache kept me awake on Friday night, along with a severe sore throat. (I was awake much of the night on Thursday with the sore throat, too.) I think I got about two hours of sleep. And then! I woke up yesterday morning with something in my eye. I worked with it until it felt a little better, and then it finally stopped hurting after a while, but it remained red. (If you have kids, you may know where I'm going with this.) This morning, I woke up at 5:30 to go to the bathroom, and was alarmed to realize that my eye would not open because it was all crusted together. The whites are still pink, and it's been watering constantly. I think that pretty much fits the description of pink eye, folks! I have won the fucking lottery on sickness lately. Oh, and also, my voice is gone. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so horrible. My cough, which was pretty bad before, got even worse yesterday. I gave in and took a night-time pill because it had a cough suppresant in it (we don't really have any non-drowsy, simple cough syrups.) And then I slept for thirteen hours with minimal interruptions, which I rather needed after two sleepless nights.

What disturbs me is that instead of getting well, I just keep adding symptoms. I've missed six days of work in the last month.. would have missed more if not for weekends. I have tomorrow off, at least, so I don't have to worry about it for a little bit longer. I feel really guilty about it, too, but there's just absolutely no way I could be there feeling like this--nor do I really think the nice people I work with need to be exposed to this. That one mean girl is already blaming me for her cough. (*teases [livejournal.com profile] queen_b980*)

One nice thing happened yesterday, though. A while back, [livejournal.com profile] blue_eyed_girl asked if someone in the US wanted to buy four skeins of yarn for her. I agreed to buy it, but then.. things happened. It's not that I didn't look! I checked a couple of stores the first day she asked! But then I got sick, which made everything harder to accomplish. I had M check WalMart when he went to pick up Gatorade, and they had three skeins, all different dye lots. Then when I finally felt up to going myself, I checked again.. four skeins, three different dye lots. And then I looked in another store, no dice. On Sunday, we went to WalMart in Morehead to look for the yarn before we left town--but since it was Easter, they had closed early. Then I got sick again, and by now, I have been feeling tremendous amounts of guilt because I am holding up poor Lydia's afghan. So when my mom called yesterday saying they were on the connector in Morehead heading out of town to come see us if we were going to be home, I asked her if she would mind terribly stopping at WalMart before they left to check for the yarn. Since I was sick and pitiful, she agreed to go look for yarn, but then she called back a few minutes later to let me know that they had four skeins, but all different dye lots. Sigh. M told her (I was in the shower) not to get them, but thanks anyway. When they finally got here... she handed me a WalMart bag full of yarn--she had stopped in Mt. Sterling to go to another WalMart to check for me. *beam* If they hadn't had it there, they had one other stop planned. So, I now have a bag full of yarn for you, Beverly, and I am so sorry that it's taken so long. And, since my mother, gloriously unsick, bought it, my germs and I have not handled it. I'll try to get it mailed as soon as I can.

That wasn't all they brought, though.. they brought Easter presents! SpongeBob and Jolly Rancher edibles for the boy, and potato chips (*laugh* don't my parents know me?) and chocolate for me. And they also brought with them the stuff to make us a strawberry pie since we are sickly. And then they took us out to lunch. My parents are nice. I like them.

P.S. M is sick, too.

You two are sick all the time. :( My sister is sick all the time, too, but she lives in Virginia or I'd suspect some sort of conspiracy. GET WELL SOON!!

I hope you guys get wel soon. I admire the fact that you find the energy to post quality posts despite being sick. I can't manage more than lying around like a sloth all day.

*comfort* I'm so sorry to hear you're sick, chickles. I have been battling things off and on this spring, but you seem to have been constantly sick forever now. *hugs* Tell it to DON'T!

I'm up at 1am writing this cos I can't sleep, achey and sore throat and stuff. I truly thing that whole river/Kentucky thing has a lot to do with it. I was always sick when I lived there, and then I was dreadfully ill with an allergic reaction to mold when I visited Andy in VA on spring break before we got married, but that was entirely my fault for cleaning up a very moldy (very man-like) bathroom. Since I've lived in NC, I haven't been sick much at all, and even when we were in Tazewell, VA, I wasn't sick as much, though I did still have some of the typical springtime allergies. Maybe it's just because I haven't lived here long enough for my body to build up a reaction to everything there is here. The Dr. used to tell me to move to the desert and my allergies would go away. I proved him wrong when I visited Sarah at 29 Palms, CA (middle of the desert) and my sinuses were screwed up for a month after having been in such a dry environment! I figure it would have eventually evened out, but since I tend to be not as hydrated as I should be to begin with, desert life is just not for me.

I hope you get better soon. Have you considered taking a week off work (or maybe, at this point, a few weeks!!) and going back to Morehead and see if it clears up on its own? It might. But I realize that would probably require quitting work, taking off that long. I hope you feel better very very soon!

What can I do?

WTF!!! OK you have got to start feeling better. Work misses you SO much, thou devoted COBOL lover!!!! Hope you feel better and M too. (See I am not always mean) Hope to see ya soon, but if it is pink eye STAY AWAY!!!
Just a side note: My cough is much better. I really think mine is caused by allergies and the older I get the worse they get. Whatever the cause for all this ugh this year has been the year to be sick!!

Glad you found the yarn you were looking for.
Sounds like you have wonderful parents too!!!
