Two Things Which Made Us Laugh Today

Every once in a while I will point at random things and demonstrate my knowledge of the word in Swedish. I think I started doing it when I was getting a handle on plurals because it seems like now it's only multiples that it occurs to me to focus on. Actual conversation from today:

K: *pointing* Fåglar! *pause* Många fåglar!
M: Very good! *pause* And what do you call them if they shit on your car?
K: Jävla fåglar!
M: Exactly!

I think the boy wishes it known that he has taught me all of the important words. (I guess I should provide a translation guide. Fåglar = birds, Många = many, and jävla is, besides one of the first words that M taught me.. well, M translates it to "fucking" but he's not sure everyone would. You get the point, anyway.)

We were at Kroger briefly tonight, and as we got out of the car, I started laughing at the tacky but gigantic blow-up Christmas display outside, fully intending to post it here for you all to ridicule. It was Santa, with Mary at his side, both of them looking proudly upon baby Jesus in the manger. It was flippin' hilarious! Alas, when we got closer, we noticed that Santa was instead a strangely festive Joseph, which made the whole thing much less funny. No less tacky, ugly or overpriced, of course, but at least it wasn't Santa.

I'm very glad that M gives you such a good education in Swedish, emphasizing the truly important words. Swedish curses may seem a bit lame compared to what is used over here, but once you get the hang of it there is a certain kind of poetry in stringing them together properly.
