My car is at the shop. It made a huge rattledy-shmappedy-bong noise on the way back to work at lunch on Wednesday, and there were then click-thump-ick noises randomly afterwards. Not much, and not sounding as if they were coming from the engine area, but enough that I had M take a look at it when I got home. He found the problem (broken bolt thing) and called the shop, had a nice conversation with Friendly Old Guy, the owner, and then drove the car over immediately so he could make sure the car was safe to drive until we could bring it in over the weekend. He gets really frustrated sometimes because one of the very few areas where he doesn't know words is the technical side of working on cars, so he couldn't tell the guy what kind of bolt it was. (Sway-bar bearing, fyi.) Anyway, I drove it the rest of the week and we took it over tonight.

It's kind of funny because the car leaks brake fluid, and the part that it needs in order to stop leaking brake fluid (by the way, you cannot imagine how stupid I look filling the thing up with brake fluid when it starts dinging at me, but at least I can do it) has been on order with two different car repair shops for eight and twelve months. Isn't that crazy? They were both supposed to call us when it came in so we could schedule the repair and neither place called. It's a very slow leak so it wasn't really that annoying, and we probably should have just called anyway, but still. Two places! Anyway, when M called Friendly Old Guy, he immediately remembered who that part he had ordered was for. *laugh* He's going to fix a couple more small annoyances while he's at it, so the whole thing really is working out pretty well. I could drive it all week without worrying about rental cars or hitching rides, and M and I both have Monday off so we can pick it up then. Hopefully, anyway. For a car repair, this one is pretty painless. I won't have a car tomorrow, though, as M has to work, but I usually don't go anywhere on my days off anyway.

Three days! Three days of glorious unplanned bliss! Technically it's a Morehead weekend but after the whole Christmas/New Year's/Mom's birthday cluster of travels...I'm thinking it will be nicer to sit at home. M and I are both still in the mood to get some stuff done, and so I'm hoping I'll be able to cross a few things off my to-do list.

I was going to write something else but I've spent the last half an hour tormenting M with a baby name website, which was linked from a writing website I was reading. When we have kids, we are going to seriously have trouble with names. For one thing, M doesn't really like names, and that will cause us trouble. Ha. Just kidding, dear. I think our tastes are very, very different, though. During a discussion about other people and baby names, my mom gave me an impromptu lecture on how the woman gets to choose the baby's name because she is the one to carry the kid for nine months and then give birth. That ain't gonna fly in our house, I can tell you that much, and I don't think it did for most of my friends with kids. But maybe I can whip that out in the throes of childbirth and see if it helps.. okay, that was totally off the subject. Happy happy weekend yay!

The baby name dilemma sounds way too familiar. I went through and cirlced about fifty boy names that I would find acceptable. Mike went through those and found a whopping grand total of TWO names that he wouldln't mind having--Erik and David. I guess we were lucky with the middle name b/c I was pretty set on using my dad's middle name after seeing him totally crushed when my sister didn't use his middle name (she had said she was going to, and then ddidn't at the last minute). I have no idea what we are going to do next time, assuming there ever is a next time. Men! *tugs braid*

As far as the baby names go, I strongly feel that the woman should at least get her choice of a first name. Seriously, though. We are the ones who have to go through nine months (well, plus that actually, because for at least a while after the baby is born, we're dealing with hormonal hell and a weird, funky, deflating body, lol). I chose Dylann's first name and let Loserboy choose the middle name (after his great grandmother), and then of course, she got his last name. So it worked out well. At the time anyway, haha.

Car troubles are totally a pain. Glad yours are on the mend.

The whole idea with baby names is to wait until the baby actually arrives and dazzles the guy so much that he forgets all about a little detail like helping pick one out and you get to do it by default.

The woman *totally* gets to choose the name! It's just the natural order of things.

I am so not surprised. M read what I wrote last night and totally agreed with the part about him not liking names. We've been having this discussion for years and have never gotten anywhere with it. *sniffs*

Sounds good to me but I don't know if I can convince the opinionated one of the logic there. ;)

That's a good plan. I've actually been thinking it would be a good idea not to campaign too strongly for any one name until the time comes because I think I stand a better chance to prevail when it's closer to said hypothetical baby's arrival.

I'll try to keep that in mind.. though I really am not so sure I can convince M of the validity of that. I'll give it a try, though... ;)
