Last night after I posted cheerily about how nice my day was, I was just hanging out waiting for M to get off work. He gets off at 6:15, and he always calls me when he leaves. So at 6:15, he calls, and we talk for a minute, and I am telling him about something that I think he should be interested in, and he is saying the appropriate things but then he all but interrupts me to say that he wishes that he was at home. And I think.. okay, I guess he didn't want to talk about that anymore! So I am agreeable and say that I wish he was at home, too, and he says, "I don't think it's fair that you should have to wish for me to be home on your BIRTHDAY. So, I will push the teleport button. Hi!" *honk honk* And there he was! He left work early just so he could do that, and also so he could bring me flowers! Pretty flowers! Then he took me out to dinner at Longhorn, and was cheerful even though we had to wait twenty minutes for a table (he HATES that.) And that was very nice, and then we came home, at which point he pulls out two more presents from the trunk of his car.. a painting set (yes, I know I can't paint but maybe that's cause I don't have any!) and a rice cooker. Ooh, the romance. Does anyone have a rice cooker? I'm sure it's a piece of gadgetry that I don't need but I HATE cooking rice. I mean, I hate it. It creeps me out. I can't stop myself from lifting the lid and I know that I shouldn't, and then it kind of sticks to the bottom at the end and looks really freaky. I don't make rice dishes all that often because of it. Well, except for rice dishes where the rice gets cooked in a skillet. Anyway, whatever.

So, it was a nice birthday, and it's not over yet! M lets me celebrate my birthday for days. It started before he moved. He was here to visit a month beforehand, and we decided we should celebrate it while we had the chance, but then we had to celebrate it on my actual birthday, and then.. I don't remember why but we celebrated a third time. Ladies, keep this in mind: set a birthday precedent, and then it carries on and on with multiple days of niceness and presents! It's great. Anyway, we have decided that this weekend is going to be great fun and if it is not then I will lie about it so you won't know the difference anyway.

Speaking of weekends that will be great fun, Carrie and I have been scheming today to make a weekend trip next month to meet up in West Virginia. Granted, West Virginia was not on the top of either of our list of fun places to go but it is conveniently located halfway between where we are and where they are, so there we'll go. Sounds fun, huh? I have met several people from my former internet life in the real world (I even married one of them) but I think the last one of them that I met (for the first time) was in 2000, and all of them have been mudders... have never met any blogging types. I suspect it will be very much the same only they will be less dorky. ;)

Part Next of the birthday happy is that there are clean sheets waiting to be put on the bed, and I am freshly showered and very sleepy. I am so looking forward to this.

I gave away my rice cooker to my brother at some point (I think I was leaving the country) and I so regret that I didn't just loan it to him. Yes, I can buy another, but it seems a wee bit extravagant to buy a machine that only can do one thing. But oh, how I wish I had my rice cooker now. I am like you and can. not. resist. Must. Lift. LID! The rice cooker just cooks the rice and then the little light goes off telling you Rice is ready! Enjoy it in good health!

P.S. My mom has a whole cookbook of rice cooker recipes, dispelling the myth that you can only cook plain rice in them.

I love love love our rice cooker. We eat rice a lot, though. It has been really nice to be able to buy the cheaper "real" rice instead of the instant rice that we always used before. It is so easy! Ours has a steamer thing that can fit on top of it and I use that all the time to steam veggies for ourselves and for Erik. I have the rice cooker out at least three times a week.

I don't know if it will be less dorky or not. Don't forget Mike and I met on a fantasy books website *lol*. I've never been a part of a mud, but I think that's only because I never really knew how to get involved in one. I am so looking forward to the weekend!

Have fun on your extended birthday weekend! I have to go bake Mike's birthday cake now so it can get mushy for tomorrow.

If you don't own a rice cooker in Hawaii, they kick you out. :)
