Baby Yayer ;)

I'd like to officially introduce everyone to my new baby. I told my parents that their second grandchild had arrived; they were not particularly amused. :)

Processor Class: Intel Pentium 4
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Bus Speed: 533 MHz
Cache Size: 512 KB
Memory Speed: PC2700
Installed Memory: 512 MB
Hard Drive: 7200RPM 80 GB*
CD-ROM Read Speed: 52X
6 USB 2.0 ports (4 back, 2 front)
Built-in NIC and sound
Sucky ATI graphics card
CD-RW*

*We kept the hard drive and CD-RW that I already had. We also didn't buy the monitor, mouse, keyboard and all that We didn't intend to buy a graphics card, either, but we ended up with another cheapo ATI in the end, which isn't ideal. I really hate it, actually.. it's flickery. But we're going to try my old card again and then we'll stick this piece of crap in my old computer. It sucks that we had to (long story) buy another one, but we'll live. It was cheap. Anyway, I don't need a particularly good video card, or sound, either, for that matter. And, best of all, we spent quite a lot less than if we'd bought a similar system directly from a manufacturer. Yay. :)

I've spent the majority of today getting all my ducks in a row, figuratively speaking, and I think I have most of the essentials installed and working now. I'm so anal about it, though, so I'll probably still be working on it somewhat for days. This is the part I've always liked best.. making things run exactly as I want (or the Windows equivalent of exactly as I want, anyway.) I really should be a Linux user, I know. :) I've tried it more times than I care to discuss, but it's the little things that always get me. I suppose I just don't adapt well to change. :)

I realize most of you aren't particularly techy, so I do apologize about the boringness of this post, but I had to get it out of my system somehow!

The inside. Well, before the graphics card and CD-RW went in. We actually took this picture to compare Jim's style of computer building (angled and orderly cables, with Magnus's, which is NOT quite so pretty. *grin* It's a little unfair, though, because this thing is huge.. it's a server chassis, really. It's also, surprisingly enough, extremely quiet.

Congratulations on your birth ;) I think I definitely come across as un-techy at times but believe it or not I love it all and certainly appreciate getting new hardware as well as software :) And learning html is so exciting because I can create something from scratch - I love that feeling of control and it sounds like you like the same, knowing exactly what's in your baby and making sure it works just the way you like it - enjoy!

Thank you! It's a very special, emotional time for us both.. *laugh* Okay, so I'm getting a little carried away, perhaps. :)

Are you learning html just for fun? I remember how much I enjoyed it when I started learning how to do it all.. I still enjoy it, actually. Good luck with that. :)

Yes, purely for fun, which makes it nice. I managed the development of a few websites for various jobs but more the branding/design side so I got interested and then got bored in my current job and found this online do-it-yourself course ;) Very naughty of my but I love it and do an hour a day and am slowly getting it!

Neat! So, what do you do, exactly? *nosy* :)

Congratulations on the new-born! It looks like it can hold quite a number of hard drives. One can never have too much disk space. :) Your entry made me realize that I haven't made a backup in a while (now that I have my system setup like I want it and all..).

It holds five, actually, which is perhaps overkill.. can't even have more than two as it is now. *grin* I agree, though, it's always nice to have options. ;)

My last real backup was a ridiculously long time ago before this week. I hate backing things up, it gives me hives.
