Mosaic Minds, and Movies.

same_skyMosaic Minds is up! This issue is Relativity. A few days ago I mentioned reading a feature article that left me somewhat speechless--if you're curious, I was talking about My Glamorous Mother. I still don't have anything to say about it, but that thing I don't have to say? I mean it a lot.
I've pretty much spent the day working on getting this put together, so that's the biggest piece of news that I have for the day. I did take the afternoon and early evening off, though, and the boydrug dragged pulled me along with him to see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I didn't resist or anything, because I've also read it and had a deep-rooted curiousity as to how they were going to turn it into a movie, but I probably wouldn't have bothered with it today. We did not bring our towels with us, although M wanted to. He was reading the other day--I really, truly don't think this classifies as a spoiler, but if you're extremely easily spoiled, you may wish to avert your eyes--that 85% of the script was actually written by Douglas Adams, but that the other 15% was added after he died, and was the addition of a love storyline. (No idea as to the factuality of this.. I'm not sure where he read it, either, and he's downstairs so I can't ask.) This kind of disturbs me. I don't know. It's just that, well, even though I possess sizable breasts and an ability to ask for directions, I just don't require a love interest in every film I see.
We don't go to the movies all that much. In Morehead, we said it was because there was only one theater, and it played just one movie at a time. (I remember the days when that one movie was at least a month old, but these days, it tends to actually be a new one. And I also remember the days when you could call the number (784-5522) to hear the recording for the current movie and get the "Thank you for calling Chakeres University Cinema, where all seats for all shows are just one dollar and fifty cents" message. I am speaking of this as if I am old and crotchety, but in truth, they lowered their rates when I was a teenager and probably saved themselves from bankruptcy by doing so, since people weren't going to pay $4.50 for a six-week-old movie. It's more than that now, though. Not that this matters in the slightest.)
Anyway. Now we're living in a place where that doesn't apply, and we still don't go. I was sitting there tonight, and it just occurred to me that.. I really don't enjoy going to the movies all that much. I like it sometimes, as a Thing to Do, or for certain films (LotR was one of those things that gain from the big screen) or rarely, because I really want to see something as soon as it comes out (Ocean's 12). But for the most part, I'm just not all that interested. I don't like going to sit in the dark in the middle of the day with a bunch of other people in seats that were never meant to be comfortable, eating over-salted popcorn and watered-down pop and not even being able to check the time on my watch. Maybe I'm different from everyone else, but I also don't enjoy just sitting still and doing nothing but stare at the screen. I usually like to be doing something with my hands when I'm watching a movie. On my own couch, in my own living room, with my own snack food products.
Speaking of snack food products, did life even exist before Ben & Jerry's?
