You're so lucky to have two handymen in your life. I love my dad and husband but they've got other skills. Fortunately my husband is learning, but we need to desperately do our kitchen, and it would be significantly cheaper if my husband could do some of the stuff himself. Hopefully he'll work with the guy we're eventually going to have help us and learn for the next time. :-)
The ribs sound lovely. I made some this summer and sweet Mary they were good.
