As someone whose primary crafting activity is tatting, and then knitting, I am loving this sewing thing. You can like, make things quickly! I know that there are plenty of projects that take up more time than what I've been doing, but compared to the amount of time it takes to tat something, this is nothing short of miraculous. I decided to make an item today, so I drew out a pattern, cut everything and had my proof-of-concept ready a very short time later. It's a simple item, and I'm a little embarrassed to tell you what it is because OH MY GOD WHO AM I these days? Gentlemen, avert your eyes. I have now sewed myself a pair of breast pads. And I know that I have begun sounding strangely crunchy, of late, what with the whole cloth diaper thing, but can't some things stay disposable, right? In my defense, this time it's not really about frugality or environmentalism or anything like that. My skin is just incredibly sensitive, what with the dermatographism thing (I break out in an allergic reaction if something irritates my skin, such as scratching myself.) Putting paper and plastic into my bra is a bad idea, let's just put it that way. I know you can buy non-disposables somewhere, but I haven't seen any, so I just made my own to see how it would work.

By the way, I kind of suck at the sewing thing, but I am seeing a gigantic leap in my skills already. I can sew mostly straight lines! I can keep my seams a relatively even distance from the edge of the material! I don't ask for much. ;) I started at basically zero on the sewing thing so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. I had M teach me to sew, by the way. I have sewed a few things in the past, but badly and rarely. There are plenty of uglies, but I've avoided doing several things that I was doing wrong at the very beginning, so I am definitely learning from my mistakes. I love this phase of learning something new. You know just enough to get by with what you want to do and have not yet grasped the enormity of all the things that you don't know. I don't know how long I'll stick with it but it's fun for now, and I have several more little projects in mind before I can call it quits anyway.

I had a pretty relaxed day at home--I'm usually pretty busy on my days off, but I decided that rest would be a better idea today. I did get some stuff done, though, and I made some spontaneous money (long story) AND rubbed salt in the wounds of Mr-We-Shut-Off-Your-Domain-Without-Warning hosting company to boot. That was satisfying. And it's Crock Pot Monday (a new feature in this household) and we tried a new chili recipe and it turned out to be yummy after I added cumin to it. How can you have chili without cumin? It was just wrong. And M came home with a crib (!!!) and we moved our bed to the new room. There's a lot of furniture to be shuffled around before we can get the crib into the right room and assemble it. Still, it's exciting. Maybe we'll also get a mattress for the crib sometime soon. ;)

I am a good wife because I let my husband hang mandolins on the wall, btw. See, M is just as easy to please with a spouse as I am. We are well matched that way. I told him tonight that I had bad news about his TV girlfriend, Giada--she mentioned her husband on the air so she is married. He just looked at me without blinking, and said, "It's not like I'm wanted to MARRY her. It's more like a one-night .... dish, with us." You know, I have a feeling most people think we're absolutely nuts. Or, nutters, if you're Kirsty. ;) He is having a good karma day (according to him) so he's in a pretty good mood. I think the crib helped. He is generally happy when I let him spend a lot of money.

I love that OH MY GOD WHO AM I. And quite right too, although as you will see later today OH MY GOD WHO AM I, so we all have those moments....

As you're started a Monday Crock-Pot tradition, I thought you might like New England Clam Chowder. I have no idea if you even like clam chowder but this looks good and simple and easy to make. Actually, that is a pretty good community for crock pot recipes.

Thanks! It looks really good except for the clams. ;) M would probably love it. I've looked at recipes in that community a few times but I haven't joined. I probably should.. I am just now using my crock pot after six years of owning the thing. It's handy! Really! Duh. ;)

Hehe. I will eagerly await said post. You may have written it already but I am not logged in here at work so I can't check.

Hmmm, you know, I threw out a big pile of cloth breast pads because I thought, who on earth is going to want my really used cloth breast pads? They were second hand when I got them (from my best friend so at least I knew whose boobs had leaked on them) and you can bleach them and stuff, but still. I think I have one pair left. Interested?

Try looking in the Motherhood store (assuming you have one in your mall).
