Hi, guess what? It's April, and we're having a baby NEXT MONTH. Argh. That makes it sound so very much soon. I think the official count is 55 days (until the due date, of course). Less than eight weeks. Wow. M forbid me months ago from making an April Fools joke regarding the baby... not that I would have. I might have thought of it if I had been due next week or so, but it's too early to be funny. When I was in second grade or so, I got really annoyed with one of my best friends who was always telling me something outrageous and completely untrue, so I decided that I would tell HER that I had a dire and deadly disease of some sort. Kids make a lot of sense sometimes, because I remember that being a perfectly sensible reaction. My mom nipped that one in the bud real quick-like, and said that if we tell people things like that, they might come true. (Not her exact wording but it's what I took away from the conversation. I'm not entirely sure that's what she meant to happen, now that I think about it.) So, I have always been afraid of making jokes about things I really don't want to happen. I'm letting M think that his was the deciding factor, though. Boys like to think that they're in charge sometimes. Too bad he reads this, huh?

My belly is kind of numb around my belly button. I am assuming this is because the baby is on a nerve or something, but Google kind of let me down when I searched for it. I'm not supposed to worry, am I? It's kind of annoying but I'll live. My belly button is still clinging to the notion of being an innie, but I can move my belly to watch it pop. It grosses M out, which is why I have to do it. I hope it stays more or less inside. Seriously, you would not believe how high I am carrying this child. She kicks my bra line in the center when she gets bored. I asked the doctor on Friday if she could tell me what position the baby was in. She ran her hands around my belly and declared that she is.. mainly just really high, so she couldn't tell. She also offered to check my cervix for the second appointment in a row, but I declined again. I rather enjoy doctor visits where I can keep my pants on. And speaking of my cervix, Ducky darling sweetie cakes honey child, please stay off mine. That is not a toy for baby. Thanks.

I finished the last two basket liners this afternoon. Yay for progress! I edited my post yesterday to create a link to a picture of the first basket, but in case you read it before that, you can see what they look like here... same picture as yesterday. When we first started getting stuff together, we kept saying that we didn't need everything to be all pink and frilly, and we have totally caved to the pink pressure. There are pink hearts there in that white lace. Yikes.

We were up pretty early this morning, and we ventured out to do some shopping. A new milestone of sorts for the day--I was officially unable to wear my wedding rings due to swollen fingers--it was tight when I put them on this morning, so I decided not to risk it. (I just started taking the wedding band off at night in the last few weeks.) I put them on a chain around my neck, because I felt naked going out without them, but then when I got home and took them off the chain, guess what I did? If you guessed "tried them on to see if they fit", then you win a prize! I am such a moron. It was very tight, but I got them back off again. I don't know how I would have lived with my own stupidity if I had actually managed to get them stuck AFTER I couldn't wear them out and then brought them home and tried them on. Hopefully the swelling will go down again. Maybe. Also, we bought the baby's coming home outfit, which is intensely cute. M and I don't really agree on what makes an outfit cute, but we both agreed on this one so it was fate. We don't get to buy many clothes, since my mom has pretty much taken care of that for the first two years. ;) Of course, if it turns out to be a boy, he will look very funny in his little pink dress. ;)

you can expect that area to stay numb for the duration and slightly afterwards. That area is still tender for me as well. I think all this is due to the stretching.

Yes-ish. Or at least we've made plans for dealing with it! M has scheduled a day off work (next Friday) and I am planning on switching my regular day off that week to Friday, when I have scheduled a doctor appointment, and we plan on spending the rest of the day dealing with the daycare question and the pediatrician question (as time permits). I have started a list of questions that we need to ask them, and collected a list of daycares in town. We'll be calling them to make sure we can come in for a visit on that day--M will be doing at least some of the calling on his lunch break, but I need to prepare the lists first. (I am just better at it than he is..hehe.) It will be our only weekday pre-baby to get this kind of stuff done, so I'm trying to plan it very well. I've spent the last week staring at my Outlook calendar trying to make sense of everything we need to get done. Including maternity leave! We'll have about five months before we need the daycare, if all goes well, so hopefully that will be okay. Anything besides daycare and doctors that require us to do something on a weekday that you can think of?

I just looked in the phone book and on my insurance company's website about the pediatricians in town. Short list! Approximately one clinic! That should make things easier, unless I hate all eight of them, of course. ;)

Thanks! It seemed like something normal to me but you never know. I don't really understand how it can be both numb and tender but pregnancy is weird, I guess. :)

Tour of the hospital? Or was that included in your Lamaze class?

When we checked out our initial pediatrician, she met us after office hours which we thought was very nice and helpful. I actually think it was that, more than anything else, which led to us going with her. Especially since it was our first and, let's be honest, like we had a clue how determine if she was good or not.

She later left that practice and we had to find a new one. They had given us a list of pediatricians in the area who had said they would take her patients. I asked another woman at work who has two kids and she took her kids to one of the ones on the list and liked them a lot so I just went with it.

How many daycare places are there to look at? That sounds like one hell of a busy day!

Yes, it will be busy, but it does help that this is (capital city or not) a fairly small town. The phone book lists fourteen daycare providers. There may have been a couple more listed in the online list I found (but apparently DIDN'T save like I thought I did.) However, this town is divided into two sections with basically nothing in the middle, and either we will need to hate all of the ones on this side of town or absolutely love one on the other, because it will be extremely inconvenient to go with one on the other side of town. My geographic favorite (associated with the church across the street) doesn't accept babies, I don't think. I'll be able to get rid of some of them based on that alone. I'm not sure yet how many we'll end up visiting.

The hospital tour was supposed to be done during the childbirth class, but they were too busy. However, we did get a bit of a preview when we were there a couple of weeks ago. We do need to go fill out paperwork, though.. if we have time, maybe we could do it that day, too. We'll see how we go on time.

Oh my god, next month??!! WHEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The basket liners are gorgeous, so cute. I'm dying to know what makes you like a cute outfit and what makes M like a cute outfit, bizarrely.

I know!

I tend to like clean-looking things, with cottony materials and much of the decoration coming in the way it's sewn, in cute fabrics and perhaps some ruffles and a bit of lace, OR teeny clothes that look just like something big people would wear. M likes very frilly things, with bows and flowers and preferably satin and lace. Pageant dresses, basically. I like those, too, in theory, but they seem uncomfortable and impractical. It's kind of hard to explain, but we are getting a feel for what kind of thing we both like, at least..

Very interesting!!!!! I think I lie in your camp (of course). Sure every now and then there's a moment that calls for frill, but normally, nah, no need, just simple cute cute cute.
