the evening crafty

Are you tired of my crafty posts yet? I wouldn't have posted this except that I thought it was pretty cool and I thought of carrieb while I was doing it so I wanted to show it off. I figure she'll like it even if no one else does.

I whipped this up for Evelyn this afternoon. It's really cute and fun, and is also the first quilt block I've ever made all on my own... though I suppose it's not exactly a quilt block since it is not a quilt. My seams lined up pretty well for a newbie, I think, but there are a couple that are off. Oh well! They're just bits of flannel from my scrap pile--I think I should probably have made the middle blue instead of yellow but oh well. Evelyn will be getting yet another pony (M promises her ponies all the time) because she lunged at it while I was showing it off to M this evening, and attacked it with vigorous joy. I think she likes all the colors. :)

Maybe I'm a closet quilter after all.. maybe one day. :) I just dread all the fiddlyness and all the mess and all the expensive fabric purchases.

That is so cute! And it mostly all lines up! I don't see any obvious flaws that jump out at me. I think it is just fine with the yellow in the middle. Kind of like a little sun. If I ever have another baby, you'll have to explain to me how you got the tags on the outside like that. I am not good at figuring that out. I think I sort of know how you would do it, but it is not exactly a quilt so I wouldn't know exactly.

You could totally make a quilt. It only has to be as fiddly as you want it to be. Heck, I probably could if I was willing to ride in a car with Erik for that many hours, but I don't think I am quite willing to do that. Mike is not going to be able to take a single vacation day for at least six months, I think. Bah! One day! One day I will be there and see your sweet baby and turn you into a quilter!

Thanks! It's funny that you mention getting the tags on the outside because I sat down yesterday afternoon whilst E was playing in the floor (on your quilt!) with her dangly-toy thing and pinned the tags on and sewed the thing together. When I started turning it, I realized that.. duh.. I had done it wrong and the tags weren't sticking out. That's what I get for not checking the instructions because I thought I knew how it was done! :) You pin the loops onto the right side of the fabric before putting the second piece on top, with the loopy part laying on top of the fabric and the cut edge lining up with the edge of the fabric. Just in case you start thinking it.

I will probably do a quilt at some point. I have a lot of fabric laying around but it's all flannel and that's not really quilty. M thinks I should make E a play quilt out of the fabric I made that toy from, though.. maybe I should. She LOVES it. One day. :)
