Last month, I went out to check the mail when I got home from work. There were a couple of pieces of mail lying at an angle on top of something bulky. When I picked up the mail, what I saw underneath caused me to jump back in alarm, and then run to get the camera so I could post about it.

mousetrap in mailbox.

Who would do this? Really! I saw it in time to not get my fingers caught in it, but it could really have hurt someone! Kids are dumb and do dopey things, but it just seems to me that there's a difference in TPing someone's house and hoping their fingers get caught in a mousetrap! So, I took the pictures and then I called my mommy to say the family-approved equivalent of WTF? about the whole thing. She told me a story of my uncle's brother, who had once put a cat in a mailbox so that when the mailman stopped, the cat jumped out and scared the life out of him, and probably scratched him to pieces in the process. So now I am hesitant about opening my own darned mailbox because what a mousetrap could not do, the fear of an angry cat has. On the bright side, we haven't seen any trace of our (presumably) pint-sized vandals since. The church across the street was having vacation bible school that week. I'm hoping the little hoodlum was one of them.

(And yes, also, not too thrilled with them opening up my mailbox, but apparently people in my neighborhood have not gotten the memo that it's not okay, in a legal sense, to tamper with someone else's mailbox.)

That is terrible!! Totte's sense of humour has clearly gone down the drain. Noo... seriously, that is crap. Nasty kids. Lock it. Or, buy some of that fart spray and spray it thoroughly so that next time they open it they get a nasty shock. Although that might not benefit you later on when you take the mail in either...

Actually, I think I would report it to the police. You might not be the only person in the neighborhood who was targeted.
