random evelyn things
My mom came down to visit on Monday, and she brought with her two outfits. She is, as I just told
helloheather, completely unable to control herself when she finds cute things, especially if they're on sale or otherwise cheap. She usually has some little something for her whenever I see her. Right now, she is thinking that E needs some warmer fall things, with sleeves and pants. One of the outfits is beyond cute. The other one was on super sale (seriously, it was $1.19) and she bought it because it said, "Someday I'm going to demand a pony" on the front of the shirt. Every time Evelyn does something that is particularly sweet, we promise her a pony. Fussing for an hour with me, and then smiling like Barney himself just waddled into the room when she sees her daddy? He promises her a pony. Lunging at me, completely unsolicited, when someone else is holding her? Yeah, a pony. Obviously, Mom couldn't resist that one, because we have already filled a few stables with hypothetical ponies by now. I'm not sure that it's a good thing that our relationship with our baby is based largely on lies. Come on. We all know that the child is never going to get a REAL pony! Well. Maybe not. Maybe we should start promising her a Wii instead.
M took Evelyn to the store last night all by himself, leaving me home alone for the first time since May. I turned the music up and sewed without once listening for a baby squawk.
After lunch, I geared myself up for taking her out. Not only were we going on our semi-weekly trip to the bank*, but I was going to take her to a store! I have taken her a few places alone but not many. I know, I am a giant wuss.. but seriously, I didn't go places by myself much before I had a baby, so it's not that surprising that I stay home with her most of the time. That might change once she's a little bigger.. I don't know. So I got myself dressed and changed her, and as we walked to the living room, she began crying inconsolably. Guess what she wanted to do, the little stinker? Why, yes, she wanted to take another nap! I am not going to complain about an extra nap--actually, I was planning the trip in the middle of the day in hopes that she would be ready for her next nap by the time we came home--but doesn't it just figure that the one time she's dead set on sleeping was right when I actually wanted to go somewhere? It made me laugh to myself because I know that I have heard a variation of this same story from most parents. She's waking up now anyway, so we'll still go to the bank at least.
*M works for a company that ONLY offers payment in the form of a weekly check. No direct deposit. It drives me batshit crazy sometimes, the constant need to go to the bank. While M's parents were here and I didn't have a car, I realized that the bank is actually open until 5:30! So on M's early days, I could take off for the bank as soon as he gets home and make it there before they close, thus negating the need to drag the baby out. I did that once, and then guess what happened? His "early" days got an hour later, and now he doesn't get home until six. Bah.

Those pics you posted of her in the laundry basket were totally adorable. I can't wait to see her! We have to hammer out the details. Mike was supposed to send you an e-mail but he didn't so I am going to whip him with the phone cord. Do you think it would work for us to come on a Tuesday adn leave on Friday, Nov. 9?

As for plans.. that works for us. :) Really, we don't have anything else planned for a while so just let us know what's best for you guys and most likely it will be good with us. M just freaked me out a little by asking me if I had anything PLANNED for the time you're here and it occured to me that no, no I don't. Oh, well, I'm sure we'll figure something out. :) We can sit around and gossip about *insert the usual suspects here* if nothing else. :)
(and to anyone else who might be reading this and wondering.. no, not YOU, of course not, why would we need to gossip about you? you're awfully pretty. here, have a cookie.)

And I just talked to Mike and it looks like we will leave here on Tuesday, whatever date that is, so we'll get there late evening probably.
