I am strong and capable!

Evelyn and I just got home a few minutes ago. We drove across town to the grand opening sale of Kohl's, and then we zipped over to Versailles to meet Da-da for lunch and take the baby in to play with his co-workers for a bit. She was so good! And yes, I am a big dork but that is the farthest I've ever taken her by myself. I'm trying to work my courage up for longer outings, possibly up to visit my family by myself some day. She was all smiles and laughs today so maybe it's not as hard as I was afraid it would be. I also bought some fun stuff--two toys, one of which is a gift for my cousin, a blender ($14.99!) and a onesie that says "I <3 Daddy". (M thought that was terribly cute, for some reason.) I could have stayed longer in there but I knew I needed to get out of there so I could meet M--which is a good thing because I stood in line for twenty minutes. Gah. [livejournal.com profile] sunflower_pixie, I've heard that Meijer will be going in there, and today I heard a rumor of Target. Have you heard anything? Oh, and btw, you should post about your IKEA trip. We might go up there next weekend.

Alas, little dorko baby fell asleep in the car fifteen minutes before we got home, and although it was promising at first, she woke up when I put her in the crib. She has only slept through getting out of the carseat once in her life before today. She isn't a big fan of sleeping in the car, period.

I should also announce that no, I am not pregnant, even though I said last night that we went to Baskin Robbins when we found out I was pregnant. I meant, pregnant with Evelyn. ;) At least, it is highly unlikely that I am pregnant and if so, I am unaware of it. I suppose it is technically possible, but that precludes the possibility of us going to Baskin Robbins because we found out that I was pregnant. This paragraph is entirely too silly.

I try to not be STUFF-focused, or go over the top on the whole baby thing, but it is a little over a month until my baby turns one, and I can't stop thinking about what kind of birthday party she should have. I am thinking of doing a cupcake theme, and possibly making two different kinds of cupcakes instead of a sheet cake. I can't decide if that would be a pain or not. I couldn't tell you the last time I made cupcakes. I have one cupcake pan and I really only use it for making meatloaf. (Seriously, "meat muffins" as we call them--just make a little ball of your meatloaf goop and put it in the unlined cups. It cooks in no time and it doesn't need sliced, and you can spoon them out and leave the grease behind. For some reason I can never get meatloaf done when I make it the normal way.) It will just be family here anyway so why do I even care? I should just buy a few packages of hot dogs and some buns, a cake and call it good. Something about this birthday is bringing out delusions of being Martha Stewart, which I am so not. The worst thing is that I will probably keep coming up with plans and then get lazy and end up doing the hot dog and sheet cake thing and then I will feel bad because I wanted to do all that other stuff. It sure is rough to be me, with all these REAL PROBLEMS. End sarcasm. I am so thankful this is the among the worst of my worries right now.

Cupcakes are so cute! I really like the new cupcake trees and all that. They are a PITA, but not too bad if you use liners (unlike the time I made muffins with no liners because I am stupid). If you want to really make them fancy you can put a little bit of cheesecake batter in the middle and surprise your guests with your culinary skills. I'm big into cupcakes lately. The bonus is that no one has to cut the cake.

I am liking the cupcake thing lately too.. they're so cute, and this year I get to pick without taking any notice of her preferences so I'm leaning towards doing that. I am thinking regular white cupcakes for one set and red velvet for the other. I desperately want to make perfect red velvet cake like my Mamaw always did, so it seems like an opportunity to play with it again without all the layering involved. I don't like cheesecake so that seems like a lot of effort for other people's enjoyment to do that. ;)

I'm so out of the loop. I didn't even know that Kohl's had opened! :/

What do you want to know about Ikea? I used to shop there all the time in Washington and California, so I could probably answer just about any question you have :) ♥ Ikea!

I didn't really have any questions, exactly, just curious how your trip went because I don't think you ever said. We have been excited for ages about an Ikea opening around here--I've been a few times before (in Sweden, of course!) I tried to convince M once that we should drive up to Chicago to go there but he just thought I was insane. I am, but that's beside the point. :)

I would have gone with you to the Chicago one. I kept trying to get people to go with me either there or Atlanta. My trip was good, but disappointing. I went with people who had never been, so we spent an insane amount of time in the showroom, and then we had to rush (and by rush, I mean run) through the marketplace (which is totally my favorite part). (My friend had to be back to pick up her daughter at Capital Day.) This Ikea is all showroom on the top floor (with the occassional item to put in your cart) and the bottom is all marketplace/warehouse. In Seattle & California the set up was a little different, but I like this way since I don't usually care if I see the showrooms. I was quite happy to get my 5 bookshelves for $100, my desk that I used to have, a chair for the desk, and a filing cabinet of sorts. :)

Oops, I also meant to add that I only knew because we got a flyer in the mail with a $10 gift card. :) Yay free money! Too bad you didn't get one, though. :)

We may have. I don't always get the mail. :/
