home alone

It feels strange to be home "alone" on a Saturday night. I just got the baby to bed and it's nine o'clock and I am enjoying the quiet (though I would rather M be here than have the quiet!) He is off doing the narration for the Lucia program for SHSK, our Scandinavian Heritage society. I think he would prefer not to be doing it but there is really no one else volunteering so he got stuck with it again. This is his third time, so he seemed less stressed about it at least. I opted to stay home because it would have been a real pain to take Evelyn to... he had to be there two hours early, then the actual event lasts an hour or so (and she would NOT be content to sit quietly so close to bedtime) and then when it was over, it would be at least an an hour past her bedtime, after the potluck afterwards, and we would be forty-five minutes from home. I tried to come up with some sort of plan to mitigate those factors, like meeting my parents, or aunt/uncle, for dinner, but it wasn't going to work out and honestly, I have seen the program and its rehearsals twice already, and it's not that exciting, that I feel like I need to go every year for just that reason. Of course, soon, the little one will want to be part of it so we'll end up going anyway, but that's another story.

I bought twenty bags of frozen vegetables (mostly broccoli) tonight, for free! I bought twenty coupons on ebay.. so actually, I have four dollars in those bags of vegetables. I am definitely happy with that price. Baby-o and I left at the same time M left for the evening to do a little shopping. I thought it would help kill a little time. People are completely insane at this time of year. There was this one chick who went through the self-checkout lane with over twenty coupons! In retrospect, that was dumb. Oh well. On the bright side, I am now almost completely done with my Christmas shopping! Yay! Wrapping is being kind of a pain this year, though. I have this little girl who is really enjoying all these wrapped gifts. She is enjoying them much more when they're unwrapped, though. She LOVES this whole Christmas thing. It is awesome, or, as she would say, "ahh-come." She had a bit of a developmental spurt on language this week. I am still the necessary Baby-to-World translation device, though.

I abruptly find myself with nothing else to write about. Hmm. Better quit while I'm ahead then.

Glad Lucia! We went to Lucia here in Manhattan. I just posted about it. There is something about being in a huge room with all other Swedish families that makes me feel so happy. And the music is so pretty too :) Max enjoyed the candles. When they turned off all of the lights, he was saying "No Lights?" every couple of minutes for quite a while. Then after the procession made its way out, he said "All gone?". He also clapped a lot throughout the very slow songs and laughed hysterically when the pastor was talking once. It was a fun time!

Nice! An evening home alone. Hope it was relaxing.
PS: Read that last line as "Better QUILT while I'm ahead"... lol. My poor crafty brain. ;^)
