Today was so, so long. Five/six in the morning is not the correct time to be awake, really. I am planning on getting up early again tomorrow, though, and going to visit my parents. I am nervous because I have never taken Evelyn that far on my own. It's an hour and a half drive. I think about 45 minutes is the longest we've gone together before now. I've been putting it off for a long time. I figure that if I'm going to go, I should make it worth my while and leave early so we can spend as much time as possible before I leave, so I'm hoping to get up and get ready when M does. Now let's just hope that Evie goes along with the plan.

I made macaroni and cheese in the crockpot today, and served it with biscuits and mixed vegetables. I felt all Suzy Homemaker. (I don't particularly feel that meat is a required dish. M is definitely a fan of the meat but he is also okay with meatless meals upon occasion.) It was so good! The sides burnt a little too much, though I think that was my fault because I turned it up to high for a few minutes at the end, hoping it would help the crust on top solidify just a little. Other than that, it was excellent! I love using the crockpot but something about dragging it all out and actually getting things going seems very difficult most of the time. I used the receipe from here. You should try it. I added a parmesan/bread crumb/dots of butter topping to it and while it did add an extra layer of tasty, it was probably not enough of an improvement to warrant the extra calories. You know what the best part was, though? It uses a can of evaporated milk. I accidentally bought eight cans of evaporated milk a couple of months ago, thinking that it was going to be free. It ended up being fifty cents a can because the sale price was different from the online price list I was using. Also, I just realized that I forgot to add the (non-evap) milk. That might explain why it was a bit dry, and why it burnt. It was still good though, so no big deal. I think I will throw one together the next time M needs to bring something to a potluck. It'll be perfect for that, I think.

[insert humorous conclusion here whilst I go take a nap.]

I have never had anything come out edible from my crockpot other than apple cider - how did you make it?

I just followed the recipe, mainly. I didn't cook it quite as long as they said, and at the end I turned it up to high and that was probably a mistake. It was really good. I am thinking about making it again soon.
