Monday afternoon
Mar. 3rd, 2003 04:53 pmToday feels like a Monday. That's never good. Nothing is particularly bad in itself about how the day has gone. It's just been one ugh thing after another.
My parents called to ask if I wanted to go to lunch with them. I was just out of the shower, though, so they waited outside for me while I dried my hair and stuff. This, of course, meant that I was in a hurry and didn't completely dry my hair, which means that I'm having a horrible hair day. So I finish getting ready and head to the door..where I find that I'm stuck in my house. Our door locks normally, but it also has a chain on it. I'm incredibly paranoid and have a hard time sleeping in the mornings after M leaves if the chain isn't on. Our door has a nifty little feature that allows you to put the chain on and off from outside, with a special key. It's really quite cool. Anyway, this morning when Magnus put it on, there was a kink in the chain, and so I couldn't get it to slide even close to the end of the slot to remove it. It just barely makes it on a good day, since we did all the work on the door. We only had one key for that lock, and obviously Magnus had it, so I was stuck. (We do have a backdoor, but it won't close after it's opened, so we really avoid opening it unless absolutely necessary.) Anyway, luckily, my parents had a key to it, and so Dad went to get it and I was able to go outside.
Meanwhile, my grandfather was waiting in the driveway when they went back to get the key. He likes to eat at places I don't, so for a few minutes, I wasn't even going to lunch after all that effort. We ended up going to Long John's, so that was fine. Anyway. Then there was this huge thing about getting Angie to a doctor's appointment, which mean that Mom and I were sitting there with Papaw and Devon (who was adorable today) for ages while Dad dropped her off and switched vehicles. I finally get home, missing all but the last ten minutes of Days, and
blookum's journal reminded me that today was the MSU surplus sale, so I went down there. They had seriously lowered their prices but also lost a lot of junk, so that was a quick worthless trip. I was also accosted by Extremely-Overly-Friendly-Guy and it took me ages to get away, and then I still had over an hour to kill before I could pick up a certified letter at the post office (which was attempted to be delivered while I was out to lunch, of course. Wouldn't it have been funny if they brought it before I left and I couldn't open the door?) I had planned to kill the extra time with a visit to the grocery for dinner, but that was way more time than I had planned. So I went to the bookstore and the new art supply store (Another store that I suspect doesn't have much of a chance.) before stopping at Slone's and spending much more time than necessary to pick out some stuff for dinner. Finally, I get to the post office and it's still 3:20, but I think that perhaps the guy is back a few minutes early. I go in and the lady said that he was back, so off she goes to get this certified letter. While she's gone, I notice there's a clock on the wall. It's 3:52. My watch is half an hour slow. I've been killing time for nothing. The woman comes back with the letter and mentions that the guy had just now returned.. so even if I had been on time, the letter wouldn't have been there... on the other hand, if I'd been ten minutes later, the post office would have been closed. When I got home, I reset my watch and it's off again. This is my favorite watch, and I just replaced the battery. :( Sucky.
And to top it all off, the letter was to Magnus (yes, I opened it :P) from his previous employer, bitching about how he still has company property (the copier) and that if it isn't returned, they were going to report him to the police for embezzlement. I don't know about you, but if I hear the word "embezzlement", it's usually in relation to a lot of money being stolen by the office accountant or similar. Not quite the same thing as not returning a very dinky copier to a town forty miles out of the way as soon as he stopped working there. They didn't even pay him for the last day he was there.. when he drove to Richmond (an hour and a half) for a "meeting". It's hard to want to do these people any favors. Oh, well, we were planning on dropping it off soon anyway, it just annoys me that they sent that letter phrased that way.
Also, last week, the guy who was training Magnus was off one day because he came down with strep. Yesterday, there were a couple of sick people around at Papaw's, and today I accidentally drank after a sniffling three-year-old. *sigh* I don't wanna get sick again!
On the bright side, now Magnus will be off work in ten minutes. That's pretty good. :) And like I said, nothing really bad happened, just a lot of small annoyances. :) Hope you're all having a nice peaceful day. :)

Date: 2003-03-03 02:04 pm (UTC)I don't think this black cloud following me is going to lift anytime soon. I thought about posting all my anger of the day, but it's all one big mess, so I'll save my venting for another day in hopes to keep my heart rate down! :-) I'll be okay!

Date: 2003-03-04 06:52 pm (UTC)Yes, indeed, there was nothing much there. I eyed the typewriters for $1, but I wouldn't drag one home for that amount of trouble with no place to put it and nothing to do with it once I got it here. It was immensely disappointing. :)
