Naturally, even though I was warned it was boring stuff, I had to look at LJDrama.org when [livejournal.com profile] carrieb mentioned it. (Yes, I'm a link follower. It would drive me mad to have, for instance, a URL on say, my mousepad, without looking at it at least once. Not that I know courtesyanyone who would do that, of course. :) ) Anyway. I did stumble on something that entertained me quite a lot and made me giggle wildly.

This chick ([livejournal.com profile] siamang) posted in her journal about how she ate her deceased pet rabbit for dinner. She ended up with a massive amount of feedback on this post-1,590 comments at the moment.. people were generally outraged and upset that she would do such a thing, posting such literary pieces such as "You are just one sick fucker. You need to die and have your pets eat you. How the fuck would you feel then?! You are just not human." Rofl.

I'm just grasping for the appropriate phrasing here. This is irony, Alanis.. I know you have trouble recognizing it, so this is a prime example for you to learn from before you write your next song. These (statistically speaking) mostly non-vegetarian people are flaming her because she eats meat? She's eating rabbit! Lots of people eat rabbit! Lots of people eat pigs, too, and cows and deer and fish and chicken! Who cares if it had a name first or not? That's not even discussing the arguments about how things are done in different cultures.. eating rabbit is culturally okay in America, the country in which she resides. We dump boxes of rotten vegetables at the side of the store for people to pick up to feed their rabbits every day. It's not like they're just keeping them as a hobby, most of the time. What are these people, ten years old and unable to see anything past the end of their nose? Sure, there's a shock value to it, and I wouldn't want to eat a pet of mine that died, but for two major reasons that have very little to do with the morality of it. I wouldn't want to eat meat of an animal that died of unknown causes, first of all, and I certainly wouldn't want to cut and skin the darned thing. I don't even buy whole chickens for that reason.

Anyway, I'm done rambling about this, as I'm going off to fix dinner now. (Meatless, as it happens.) In closing, I'd like to send a cheer to this classy lady for her originality, whether or not it's actually a true story. (My money is on fake. A little too carefully worded and over-the-top in detail.) I do love the concept. :)

Hey, the mousepad looks really boring so I assumed the site would be the same and (despite being in advertising) I didn't want to succumb to the power of marketing :)

Nice bunny defence :) I probably wouldn't do it myself but she didn't deserve that much slack and rabbit does taste nice....

Heheh. Well, I haven't actually checked out the site either, after you mentioned it. Maybe it is boring after all.. just couldn't resist the opportunity to give you a hard time. :)

Hmm... I'm a little disturbed by this "cheer to this classy lady". Whereas I do agree with the basic sentiment of what you said, I'm of the belief that unless you're a hyena, dingo, vulture or similar, eating things that died by themselves is right off, whether they were pet bunnies or beef cows.

And I'm hereby putting a magical NIX on any vulture jokes, thankyouverymuch.

Well, classy might not have been the BEST word, but you know very well what I meant!

Well, I couldn't really do it, but then I'm pretty squeamish about meat in general, so the fact that it is a pet doesn't bother me as much as the meat bit.

Of course, being the sick, perverted person that I am, I immediately though of THIS MONTY PTYHON SKETCH. And I vaguely remember a sketch about "Holioday Homes for Pets" Pie Company.....

Goodness!

You're a scary lady. :) *tease* I don't think I've seen that one, or at least I don't remember it, but it sounded pretty similar. Well, quite a bit more disturbing, but close enough!

Well, to quote a strange young lady: "just couldn't resist the opportunity to give you a hard time. :)"

I guess I shouldn't complain, especially after the happy pills remark. :)

I don't think I could do such a thing, but if she did do it, she would hardly be the first person to consume the body of a loved one after it died. It has happened in human cultures -- and I saw photos in Bizarre magazine about 7-8 years ago of the cooking and consumption of a Buddhist nun in Thailand. Disturbing to me because of the way I was brought up? Certainly. The way I'd want to go? Certainly not. But if doing such a thing helped her come to terms with her loss, well, that's her right. It's not like it was her elderly auntie that she stewed and ate.

Still, though, I'm with Totte in the camp of 'things that die on their own probably shouldn't be eaten by non-scavengers.'

Yeah, me too. Apparently there was, in previous entries, a bit about the rabbit dying and its cause of death, being something innocent enough to not cause harm to the eater. (Stress-related due to the opposite-gender cage mate or something like that.. I skimmed that part.) Still. It's obviously not something I would do, either, but I found the uproar comical. :)
