Happy New Year!

Apparently, New Years is an optional holiday in my family these days. Three (of five) cousins failed to materialize on a day that we always spend doing the same thing. We always have the big family dinner with cabbage rolls on the first day of the year. One was blatantly hung over, one "just woke up" at like, three in the afternoon and one of them just didn't come. It was very very weird. Oh, well, the food was excellent, the kids were well-behaved for the most part, and there certainly were enough leftovers!
My niece rode home from my grandfather's with me, and we spent an hour or so making more marble magnets. I didn't take pictures.. I guess I figured that if you've seen two or three batches, you've seen them all. :) I did make a couple of Elvis ones that were pretty cool, if I do say so myself. We get Elvis catalogs now and then. Whitley was pretty happy about it, I think. I had the idea of what to do, and told her to go look at my freezer door and see if she wanted to make some. She didn't believe that I had made them at first, so I guess that's a good sign of a cool project to an eight-year-old. ;)
Oh, the rook tournament. We lost. :) We did make it to the second round, at least. Well. We actually didn't play the first round.. there was an uneven amount of teams, and we were the last team drawn out of the hat, so we sat out the first round completely. We played the twins, who are a couple years younger than me, I guess. They won last year and might have won this year.. no one really knows who won because they left at 1:30 and it was still going on. We left at around 10:30, so we were home in time for the clock striking midnight. At 11:57, I made M stop what he was doing and go outside with me out of the blue. He was very confused until I pulled out a pack of sparklers and a lighter. :) No one around here really does fireworks for New Years, so I thought it was a fun thing to do. I also got a kiss and a reassurance that 2004 would be our year again at approximately midnight, so it was a pretty good night. :)

Goals for the New Year
- I would like to spend as much time with my sweetie as possible! I don't really need to make this a goal because it's going to happen regardless, but I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm slipping up on the ShmooMeter. ;)
- I would like to keep track of what books I read. I have a strong feeling that this one is doomed to failure, but I'd like to give it a shot anyway. It would be interesting to know statistics on my reading.
- I would like to work on my creative powers. M bought me The Artist's Way for Christmas--there's my first step. All of this is in preparation for the next item on my list.
- I would like to fully edit my first book and (*gulp*) possibly send it off--and continue writing, both another novel and shorter pieces.
- I would like to see an improvement in the financial situation--much as always. No one is ever satisfied with that aspect of their lives, I guess. :)
- I would like to continue to work on my levels of tact. I was doing well, but I've been slipping up a little lately. Was not good to ask The Cousin if The Gay Guy has any personality outside of Gayness. Was funny as hell, though.
- I would like to work on my Swedish again. When will I have more time for it than now?
- I would like to do my part to make Mosaic Minds brilliant. :)
