Happy birthday to the mommy person!

same_skyAfter today's rather unexpected beginning, we spent quite a while being productive. The husband got laid off from work unexpectedly this morning so he was home before lunch. (I mention this briefly for anyone not on my friends list--is there anyone out there reading not on my friends list? Speak up!)
We spent most of the afternoon working on a picture project for M's parents. I wouldn't write that here but I don't think there's a chance that they'll read it. :) We were trying to finish it before Christmas, but it didn't happen. I guess that's not unexpected, given how busy the pre-Christmas time is.
Today is my mom's birthday, so I spent a while working on gifts and wrapping and all that, and we went up for enormous amounts of cake and ice cream tonight. I feel so sorry for her because she has a horrible toothache and is generally miserable. She said she was having one of my birthdays. Until the last few years, I've had notoriously bad birthdays. One year, they took me out to eat at Red Lobster.. I was about 10, I guess. We got our drinks and salads--this was before they served yummy bread, so not even that--and the electricity went off due to the storm. We sat in the dark for half an hour before it became clear that it wasn't coming back on, so we left. (Free salads. Yay.) We got home, but not only was the electricity not on there, but a tree had fallen over on the powerline across the street. We never did get power back that night. The next year, I was having a nice little party when suddenly my parents left. As it turned out, my brother had managed to get himself arrested for vandalizing a bus. *laugh* This was really not something he would normally do.. he was sort of drug along with two other friends. I seem to recall another power line incident, and one year that I didn't get any presents. Anyway, she seemed to like her gifts (a charm for the bracelet she got for Christmas and a CD) and we sat around for a while and gossiped and worked puzzles, which seemed to make her feel a little better for a while. We haven't been visiting at their house much lately, given that the husband was gone eleven hours a day, so it was kind of nice. I get a little homesick sometimes. :) My aunt also got a CD finally for her birthday, which was last May. I was a little busy last May and it sort of slipped my mind. :)
Tomorrow, I have got to get back on the Mosaic Minds site. Maybe even tonight, since we can stay up past our bedtime again. I got out of bed this morning thinking about it, and fully planned to spend a good deal of time on it today. Just didn't happen, for obvious reason. I'm not going to panic over the fact that there are only ten more days until it goes live. Err, nine more days, I guess. How exciting! I should stop procrastinating sometime, shouldn't I? :)

I read your journal

I'm sorry to hear that your husband was unexpectedly laid off. I work for a parts supplier for Ford, and I was laid off unexpectedly last summer as well. Came as a shock, but after a month off, I'm back working for the same company in another location.
