Why Would 32 People Buy The Same Car On The Same Day? - Really cute little documentary set in Dalarö. Probably quite large, since it was rather long, and you might not want to bother if you don't have broadband and several minutes. Still. M and I both thought it was really.. sweet. Sweet isn't technically the right word but that's how I felt about it. I don't know why.

There was vast amounts of excitement in my day. Or, well, no, not really. We did the family thing, and no one really did anything outrageously radical or worthy of commenting on. I glared viciously at bread and my cousin thought I gave her a dirty look, but that one was settled out of court, so to speak. That darned bread was eluding my attempts to wrap it up and it needed to be told its place and I felt I was just the woman to do it.

I just love being forceful with inanimate objects.

Apparently, anyway.

I need to work on my birthday cards. My niece is turning nine on the 17th, and I thought it would be fun to send her nine birthday cards over the next week and a half. I've printed one and have found three more in my stationary drawer, so I need to scrounge up five more and address them. I thought it would also be nice to stick something small in each envelope, but I'm not sure what that might be. Once, when M came to visit, I sent him a package with a flight kit. It had lots of little games and puzzles and things for him to do and read when he was bored on the airplane. He had strict instructions to only open one envelope per hour. I think I had certain ones labelled with specific times so he didn't open the wrong thing first or anything. You know, I was a fantastic girlfriend, now that I think about it, although I guess some guys would have found me to be much too.. cute. I often sent M fun little romantic gifts. I ran out of really good ideas after a few years, though, so I guess I'm an uninspiring wife. But hey, I got him to marry me, so the hard part is over! ;) I digress. I have all that stuff saved somewhere.. I should go through it and see if there's anything (unromantic, of course.. some of it was just silly, I think) worth sending to Whitley. I kind of doubt it but it would be nice to have some sort of use for saving all this stuff sometimes. I don't know why I can't ever throw anything away, even when it's clearly obvious that I'll never use it again. I guess I'll just have to reconcile myself to being a hopeless packrat..

I'm going to send that link to friends. It WAS cute! Dalarö is pretty close to here - we sail past it often, so it's nice to send friends a glimpse of what the place looks like.

Of course I think the documentary is a bit fake - esp. the bit about there being "a lot of reindeer on the road between Stockholm and Dalarö" - wtf? Since when did reindeer come so far south?

Oh yeah! M and I rolled our eyes a bit at that--the documentary WAS a bit of a production. It was a cute little show, though. :)

When I went to the link, a popup window behind it opened from the documentary director saying that the documentary was fake. On his webpage was edits from the documentary, and the director's voiceover talked about how the people he interviewed used the same phrases ("clean lines") over and over again, and some were hard-pressed to know how to operate the hood/ trunk controls. One woman didn't know about the GPS, which was a big deal in the car. The thing that clinched it for the director was that one guy, previously interviewed beside his silver car, was later shown driving by in a dark grey one.

So, apparently, it's an elaborate advertisement. A "spoof within a spoof" is what people on MetaFilter called it.

Neat idea, though!!

Too bad that it's not true! I actually got this through Metafilter, but I read it through a news feed so I don't get the comments and such. I figured that it didn't matter much, though, because most of the people who read this are either married to Swedes or are Swedes themselves, so they usually enjoy stuff like this anyway. ;)
