I am a horrible, horrible person and more than one person will be getting an apology over the Year of the Missing Christmas Card. I must have totally had my head on backwards when trying to get these cards written.

First, I sent a card to Sweden with US postage. Either that or the darned thing disappeared into thin air, because I know I didn't put proper postage on it, but the post office hasn't seen fit to send it back yet, so I don't know exactly what happened to it.

Then I get a lovely card from [livejournal.com profile] dbrus, and while I'm reading it, I start wondering what I wrote in the card I sent to her. Then I realize that I can't remember, which is odd. That's when I checked my list and saw that her name was in fact, not crossed off at all. I have no idea what happened because.. well, I had a list and I checked it twice! I guess she must have been naughtier than she thought! :) Sorry, Dawn! I would have sent it anyway, late, but I didn't realize what happened until the day before Christmas Eve, when I got the card, and I knew I didn't have a chance of getting it there on time.

But the worst insult came today, with a "RETURN TO SENDER: INSUFFICIENT ADDRESS" label affixed. What, they think that listing the country in the address is useful information?! What the heck is that about anyway? Ahem. *blush* M thinks that they could have looked it up somewhere because there is surely only one Nynäshamn in existence. (See, that's foreshadowing as to whom I'm talking about. I am a skilled storyteller.) I don't know why it took them so long to send it back from Lexington, but okay. M helped me draft the note inside, and I was really rather expecting some sort of response to the contents because it is by far the strangest Christmas card I've ever sent. (Or not sent, considering the outcome.) I guess they were sort of wondering where the heck their card was, so maybe we can call it even...

So. If you didn't get a card from me and you think perhaps you should have, then.. well, it's probably because I'm an idiot and sent it to Zimbabwe or something. I'll scan the card I tried to send to [livejournal.com profile] ozswede and [livejournal.com profile] tallefjant and you can all pretend that none of your friends are as dumb as I occasionally am. (Sorry, you two! We tried!)

Dearest Lambi,
We hope you have a very wonderful Christmas and an excellent new year. It was great fun having you over this summer! We've already pre-ordered a copy of your upcoming autobiography--very excited about that! (We guess that you could say hi to Marie and Lars-Göran for us. If you want.)

Much love, Kisha & Magnus

No sweat. I am in a similar situation with many LJ friends. I have received far more cards than I have sent, so it all evens out in teh end ;)

I felt really bad because I really had meant to send one. Clearly this just wasn't my year for cards. :)

We laughed heartily at the whole story. We of course know that the REAL reason is that you thought you'd save postage, so you've repeated the same post multiple times, just changed the names and filtered everone else out. Brilliant, cost effective idea!

Bruce and Sheila are rather miffed at being left out, so I had to promise them that I'd print it off to use as a liner for their cage so they can really show their feelings.

Lambi is pleased that you accorded her the correct amount of honour and has decided not to pass on the greetings, so if you wanted to send greetings to Marie or Lars-Göran, they have to be in a separate card. Sorry about that.

In the 1980's we subscribed to a periodical called Scientific American (yes, I know, I'm a geek) and we didn't get them for AGES. It was in the days before email, so we sent a snail mail letter to them about wtf was going on and discovered that when we filled in the form, we put the address in without the country - we addressed it in the same way we addressed domestic mail, so the last line read S.A. 5067. Made sense to us - South Australia and the post code. Well, they had been dutifully sending our issues to some address in SOUTH AFRICA.

Thankyou for the Christmas wishes. And I'll be checking next Christmas to see if it's the same card.

You're welcome. Sorry they didn't actually arrive.

You can just tell Bruce and Sheila that we would have mentioned them too, if they hadn't stood us up for dinner three months ago. I swear, the gall of some birds!

In the 1980s I subscribed to Highlights for Children... ;)

It's not nice to laugh at the mentally challenged. ;)
