Wednesday night
Mar. 14th, 2002 01:25 amMy hubby is gainfully employed! Wow!!
So we went to Lexington today for his third interview with Quantrell (since he got the job, I might as well mention who it is he's working for now.) He was there two hours or something.. I won't even complain about being bored in the car waiting. Anyway, he has a drug test next Wednesday, which gives him a chance to tie up insurance odds and ends. Then he starts on Thursday. The fun thing is that it's not, as we had heard, commissions only. It's commissions-based, but not just that. So that's definitely a good thing! Magnus is excited about it, methinks. It's just so appropriate. The Swede moves to the US and sells Volvos. We suspect that his nation of origin helped him a little in his job search in this particular case, which is unique. ;)
Also, I had a call from Magnus's dad while I was waiting on him to get through with his interview. Apparently he sold a steam engine thing that belonged to Magnus. So that's very nice. I did ruin the joke, though. I was supposed to tell him that he sold it for 2000 (when in fact he sold it for 8000--crowns. approximately 200/800 dollars, respectively.) And I did, but when I said 2000, he took it as dollars, and gave me this slack-jawed look of amazement and said "REALLY?!" and i said, after long moments of hesitation.. "Nope. He sold it for 8000." And that's when I realized that what he thought.. and in the end, he made less on it than he thought in the beginning! But still. The amount was pretty impressive, if you ask me. *giggle*
Also. Now that we have a real income, we're getting a decent internet connection! We've been waiting for this for so long it's ridiculous. They'll be here Monday to do the installation.. in some areas you can do the install yourself and get a month free, but it's not available here. ;( Sucks. Anyway, by Monday evening, we should be pretty ecstatic. :)
We stopped at Mt. Sterling and ate at Applebee's to celebrate the job, and went to WalMart. I bought hair dye in a new color. :) How do ya'll think I'll look as a redhead? :) Well. It hopefully won't be *very* red.. we'll see, though. Maybe tomorrow, if I remember to do it before I shower.
Magnus and I have been having detailed discussions about what our life is like here versus what it would be like if we were living in Sweden tonight. It's been fun. We also did the work to make his house liveable for two people. I was there for less than three months, so we didn't, of course, bother with making it all that practical for the two of us.. just manageable for the time I was there. I really liked it there.. I get homesick for it sometimes. Magnus thinks that's horribly cute, but he makes fun of me a little anyway. ;) Anyway, it was very very small.. something like 400 square feet. We fixed the bed, bought new storage space for the wall, got rid of the desk and replaced it with either two very small ones or one multi-user. Bought a new couch, and I cleaned the kitchen very seriously. Also, I replaced the shower curtain and got a new dryer. Funny how cheap this remodel was. I don't recollect either of us spending any money.. *grin*
In any event, we had fun with it. We've talked about the possibility of living in the other place instead of here, but in the end, we always realize that it's more practical for us right now to be here. I guess that's good and bad. I know that I would be homesick in a way that Magnus is not, but still, I think it'd be fun. I'm really dying to see what Freddy 2 did with the place. (If you're the Frederik who bought Magnus's widdle house and you happen to be reading this--you might as well know that I renamed you Freddy 2, for practical reasons. Sorry!) He said he'd send pictures when he got done. I'd very much like to see them. :)
Also, I got new shoes. *beam*
