Thursday night
Apr. 18th, 2002 11:10 pmI really hate it when people speak without saying anything. This is pretty much out of the blue.. I just heard some guy on tv babbling a few minutes ago and not saying anything. You know, using words like 'significance' and 'excellent' and 'future' and all that, stringing sentences together with a vague subject but no real meaning behind it. Know what I mean? Oh well. Doesn't matter.
Friends was a rerun but I was prepared for it this time. I had it on as background noise.. that was kinda nice. This is the first day that Magnus got off at 8 and stayed the whole time. It sucked, but it wasn't as bad today as Monday. Probably because I've been so busy all day.
I didn't go back to sleep after Magnus left this morning. I was showered and dressed and had checked mail before he called to let me know he was there. Also, I had received a FedEx envelope with our airline tickets. The guy called looking for me while I was fixing my hair. That was neat.. pretty quick. Should have expected it, though. I completely had no idea who would send us something by FexEx. It cost $13.49 to get paper tickets delivered, though.. really SHOULD have been fast. ;)
I stopped by the parents on the way to town to show off the new outfit that Mom bought me. :) I took a couple of things back for Christmas, and they gave money for Easter, so I used that for the clothes. Stopped at the bank and went to the post office to mail off the passport thing. Oh yeah. Combined cost for having my passport changed? $66. Cost of having my passport issued the first time? $60, plus pictures fee. So essentially, I've had to pay at least $65 for each use of my passport. This deal sucks!
By the way. There has been a good deal of questioning as to the length of our vacation. Just thought I'd clarify. Yes, we're only staying 10 days. With travel time, that translates to about a week. This is for several reasons, but I'll just dwell on the first. Magnus has only been working for a month at his new job. This means that he doesn't have any vacation time, as such. He's just taking unpaid leave. While his boss is okay with that, it's also the busiest time of the year and we wouldn't want to push our luck.
I really rather admire the people who write what they want in their journals without worrying about who reads it. I'm less pleased than I should be about my growing levels of tact. Not that there's anything in particular that I want to say right at the moment about anything or anyone. But I've been much less bitchy about some things than I could have been in the past. The annoying people on that mailing list, for instance. But I still won't go there.
Tomorrow is Magnus's day off! Yay! We're not sure what we're going to do. Suggestions include doing nothing and.. well, that's pretty much all so far. :)
Oh yeah. I was talking about my day. After the post office, I ran to WalMart (not literally, actually. I drove there, like most all respectable human beings do.) and got a few things, then came home to my lovely frozen dinner. Chicken tenders, french fries, and a brownie. It's funny, really. I've never been much into frozen dinners, but this one was pretty good. Ish. The fries were sort of awful. They were thumbnail-size, and there were no joke 12 of them. The brownie was the funkiest thing ever. It was like a paste in the carton, and when you heated it, it actually like, cooked and stuff. Turned out.. sort of decent but I didn't really eat much of it. Strange texture. Anyway. I straightened the house up some, did laundry and other boring things, and worked on the mandolin site for a while. I just took a writing break to show Magnus what I've accomplished. Most of what I worked on today was housekeeping--cleaning up the code and trying to hack at it to get it to look decent in Netscape. And guess what? I FIXED IT!! If you've read any of my previous ramblings about browsers, you should know that I really hold a grudge with NS4.x. It tends to be hopeless to work with and nothing looks as good anyway. But.. I fixed it, and all is well. It still looks a little funny, but that's completely in the display and not with the code.
My day. Yes. I'm rambly again today. I stopped working on that, and talked to Mark on the mud for a while instead. Then Mom and Alice came to visit, and we sat out on the porch for an hour or so. Ike and Dad (who wasn't at work due to my great-aunt Grace's funeral today) were mowing the yard, and the dust and grass was swirly and it got in my eyes and they're still burning. Not nearly as bad as earlier, at least. Since then, I've hung about Amerikanska and read and stuff. I made dinner (philly steak and swiss) without waiting on M, and have just been puttering around until Hubby Wubby got home. Then I made him some mac n cheese and we watched tv on the couch for a while. Now we're doing online things. He's playing some sort of weird music. This is not entirely unexpected.. he does that a lot.
