Sunday night
Jul. 1st, 2002 12:13 amI didn't sleep well last night again.. third day in a row or something. Anyway, last night it was the dreams and the *cats*. And not the cats in my dream, but real life cats who were screaming in the yard. I didn't even know cats could scream. I was kind of worried that they were trapped or hurt or something, but turns out (according to people today) that they do that when they fight or mate. They were so loud! I couldn't believe Magnus didn't wake up. I kept waking up and falling back into the same dreams, which made the dreams strange and twisted and nonsense.
But except for feeling tired most of the day, it's been pretty good. And burning hot. We went to Elliott County and ate at Percy's. Pretty good. There was a major effort of the men to move Papaw's awning shelter thingie that he parks under from one side of the yard to the other. Apparently it was much heavier than it looked, and it took the work of Papaw, Dad, Magnus, Tony (after a year and a half of being here full-time, M finally met Angie's husband, who lives within sight of Papaw's house--but don't worry, he didn't stay around to socialize, just came to help), Rick, Uncle Vaughn, Brad, Scotty H. and two fourwheelers to get it into place.
We came home and did some grocery shopping and accidentally bought nonboneless chicken breasts. Had a major hassle with food in general. I started the rice and THEN discovered that it wasn't boneless, therefore it took me much longer to cut it up and M had to come help with things. Then the grill pan got much too hot and the chicken burnt. Luckily, we were doing it in small batches so not all was lost. I was still cutting at this point. Our ventilation in the kitchen is dismal, and as it was ridiculously cloudy with smoke, we ditched the grill pan and did the rest of the chicken in a teflon pan (and I did the cooking, as well. Not that M can't cook, but that particular pan is temperamental and he hadn't used it before, among other reasons.) So.. eventually it all turned out, but not before we made the house smokey and smelly and burned most of a chicken breast.
Also on the annoying household episodes topic. The electrical light thingie in Goldie came on a few times, and one suggestion was that it was related to the fuel injector thing. Don't ask for details, this is as much as I know. ;) So last Sunday, we stopped at the car store and bought some cleaner and put it in before driving to Papaw's. And, naturally, we put it in the trunk... and forgot to get it out. Last night when we got in the car, we smelled a strange, oily gasoline scent in the car when we first got in, but it disappeared. Same thing this morning, and sometime during the day we figured out that it was the same smell as the injector cleaner that was in the trunk, and it must have leaked. So we got home and left the trunk open for a while to air out. After we got home from Mamaw and Papaw's (after dinner, we went up there) we were super productive and got the mat thingie out of the trunk and cleaned it with the water hose and some oxiclean. It seems that most of the spill (the cap was off.. it seems as if it shot off from being too hot, though of course we can't prove this as we weren't actually in the trunk when it occured) was on the cover floor thingie, above the spare tire, so that at least was good. Now, we just hope that the smell goes away, as it's not all that particularly pleasant. We've left the mat to dry outside tonight, and I'm sure I'll keep you updated on its status. ;)
After that, we cleaned the kitchen up (see, I told you we were productive) and since then, we've pretty much been reading. We're both at various stages of reading Lord of the Rings.. I'm nearly done, btw. I'm at the point where I think the book should be over, at least... but there's still fifty pages left.
Tomorrow's major goal: laundry! I'm completely out of shorts. It's annoying.
