Saturday night
Sep. 29th, 2002 12:18 amToday was so nice. It reminded us of a visit, before he moved here. Then, we were always going places mainly for the sake of going and being alone. We spent so much time apart that when we were together, we were almost jealous of any time spent with other people... even if we had fun. Lots of shopping trips, lots of tourist stuff, lots of nature, lots of going out to eat. From the first day, the silences were comfortable and the conversation companionable.. which is really a must if you want to be in the car for long periods of time.
Anyway, that doesn't say much about today, does it? We went to West Liberty to the Sorghum Festival. It was nice. Lots of really nice craft type things. We didn't buy anything, but there were a few things we almost bought, if that counts. :) After we left there, we decided that the day couldn't be complete without driving to Paintsville. So we did, though we really didn't do anything besides have ice cream once we got there. Anyway, we had a nice drive, pretty rural areas, lots of cows. Oh! I saw something really funny, speaking of cows. This one cow had its head flat on the ground, trying to stick its head under the fence and eat the tall grass on the other side. It made me giggle a lot. Guess you'd have had to been there.
My newest goal: learning to tat. This woman had some truly amazing framed lace at the festival that both of us wanted to buy. Course, it was pricey, but really cool. I've been saying for years that I'd like to learn. Just occured to me today that if I want to learn, then I should probably look at getting started, right?
In other news, I've been drafted for a home and garden party next Saturday by my cousin Rae. "It's kinda like Home Interior!" she says. This was perhaps not the best way to entice me into going, as the only thing I've ever bought from Home Interior was a candle, and that was under duress. :) Oh well, might be fun.
Today's unusual food information: I actually cooked something for lunch. We always have small things, or very light cooking (grilled cheese, for instance), but today I made pork chops with carmelized onions and mashed potatoes. (It was a fresh meat issue caused by last night's dinner at the parents for my Papaw Brack's 75th birthday, which, of course, I hadn't actually mentioned until just now but wrote about like anyone should know exactly what I'm talking about). Then tonight, I made chili, but we didn't actually eat it. It didn't taste right, and it didn't look right, either. There was a strange taste about the meat, and very little other underlying flavor at all, regardless of the spices and pepper and garlic and stuff. No clue what was wrong, but as we both admitted after the decision was made to abandon the effort, we weren't in the mood for chili anyway. *giggle*
Anyway, the hubbywubby is watching Monty Python in the livingroom, and while I'm not the biggest fan of that, I *am* a big fan of the hubbywubby, so I believe I'll join him. Night!
