After a mediocre-bordering-on-slightly-sucky afternoon, the hubby and I decided to go on a spontaneous date. We got slightly dressed up and took off for Lexington at 5:30. We did some shopping and had dinner and now we're home working on our purchases.

Magnus is now the proud owner of a 120 G 7200 RPM hard drive. After a shaky start ("No drives found." is not a good thing to see. Ever.), we're now in the process of putting an operating system on it.. seems to be going smoothly so far, so I have high hopes for the project. Unfortunately for me, this stupid computer upgrade project also took away my nice, working graphics card and replaced it with a sucky one that makes the ICQ icon flicker wildly and caused me to send an authorization request to a mudder that I haven't talked to in several years. *blush* (I decided to see if ICQ lite would not flicker.. and it doesn't.. but it apparently does all sorts of other strange stuff. I hate it. But I also hate the flicker. I'm torn.) Oh well.

Other than the suckiness of not having a good graphics card anymore--Magnus plays games, you see, and I don't, and the theory is that his quirky crashy games would be fixed by switching back. Actually, what I have at the moment is the one we got for me when my old one went out, but we switched them soon afterwards because I couldn't get Linux to work with that card. Hmm. Anyway. I implied at the end of the last paragraph that I was through bitching about graphics cards, didn't I? Then I went right ahead and bitched some more. Typical me. :) Guess I wasn't really done after all. As I was saying. Other than the suckiness of the graphics card issue, the evening has been very very nice. I even got some funky string. It's a metallic pearly string, which is very neat. Thick, coarse and scratchy, making it hard (and kinda painful) to work with, but I made a rather cute little snowflake out of it. I think it'll be really neat as an ornament. I should make a bunch of them and give them away, but I probably won't. I'm lazy that way.

It was so funny. We stopped at the parents to check in on Papaw before we left. He asked me pointedly where I'd been today, first of all. *giggle* Anyway, I jokingly said that Magnus beats me sometimes.. I can't quite recollect why I said this, but anyway. Papaw said something like, "Eh, let me get to feeling a little better and I'll take care of that.." It was so cute! I assured him that in that case, I'd better clarify that I was joking, and he said that he just wouldn't like it at all if he was. This would be cuter if you knew how quiet, soft-spoken and grumpy-old-man-acting my papaw is. Anyway.

I'm getting so sleepy, so I guess it's time to go to bed or at least do something that doesn't require a coherent train of thought. Night!
