I'm so sleepy but I want to stay awake and play with my presents! *laugh* We always open everything on Christmas Eve now. Sometimes if we do the whole stocking thing here at the house, we'll wait with those til morning, but we didn't do it this year. We visit both grandparents and then stop at the parents for the Big Deal. :) This year was.. weird, because both grandfathers are ill.. Papaw Brack with the heart surgery (but we ended up all meeting at his house anyway, after much debate) and the other Papaw with an infection in his lungs, plus a big deal over postponing the gifts at that house with one uncle and lots of minor issues of annoyance.. but everything worked out in the end and all went well.

Well. Except for one incident. I got the bright idea of bringing nonmicrowave popcorn and making it so we could snack. Usually we're there early and lots of people are hanging out bored waiting for everyone else, and Papaw hasn't been home really in six weeks, so I knew there wouldn't be any food. Anyway, we forgot the stuff at home and had to stop in and get it, and then when I got started, it all just went wrong. First, the cooker had one handle missing.. and of course, when I reached to shake it, I touched the metal handle-holder bit and burned my finger. It has a funky blistery place, but it doesn't hurt, really, except when I poke at it. I try, of course, to not poke at it anymore but you know how it goes. It's on my right index finger.. it sorta gets used a lot. Then again, that's probably why it doesn't hurt too much.. callouses and such. This is not the point. Well, it's part of the point. It just all sucked. The first batch turned out fine, and then I started on the next bunch, with the burned finger and a new pot, and it burned horribly. This is when I gave up and my wonderful husband came and cleaned up most of the mess, we sat out the first batch and called it a night. But I felt so sorry for myself and then I felt weepy for no good reason and then felt really stupid since there were all kinds of people around and stuff.

As for the Christmas presents, I got a bunch of string! Yay me! Two shuttles, too, and a tackle box for all my smaller balls of string and such. Three books, a pair of shoes, a purse/bag/thing, a sodium chloride containment unit and plunger set (see what I mean here), a paper trimmer (I was unbelievably excited by this.. I'm a strange girl) Beauty and the Beast and socks. And lots of smaller stuff.. my parents love doing stockings. We have lots of fun with it. Magnus ended up with a lot of tools, a couple of sweaters and a significant amount of summer sausage. No onion, though. ;( *grin* Long story. Well. Actually, not so much a long story as an unworthy-of-retelling one. :)

And now I want to tat and cook and read and cut stuff, and I can't because I'm so sleepy I can barely keep my eyes open. *yawn*

Oh, and a nice welcome to [livejournal.com profile] ekatedid!
