A proper post.
Aug. 17th, 2003 01:07 pmIt's been such a nice weekend! We went to Lexington yesterday and had a lovely time. It was rather like a visit, which were always a little magical and therefore the standard by which we judge a good day. It probably helped that we hadn't been in a while. We also set our minds to buying a few things while we were out.. we often go shopping without purchasing anything. So we bought a computer game, a dvd and a book, and had extremely expensive but nummy ice cream. I don't know why it was all so happy, but it was, and we're not complaining. I guess sometimes you just really appreciate what you have, if that makes sense, which makes the whole day feel like a holiday.
I've finished up the retouching of my granny's picture and am printing it now. Second attempt, hope this one looks better than the first (printed too dark). I don't think I've mentioned that at all, actually. I borrowed these two pictures of my grandmother and grandfather, taken when they were quite young. Papaw said he was in his thirties when his picture was taken, but Granny looks to be about eighteen. I scanned them and did some major clean-up work.. I should post them, shouldn't I? Maybe I will in a minute. Anyway, I finished Papaw's last week and printed four on a page and took them, with the original, to his house on Sunday. I was quite pleased with the response, actually. Usually, they tend to think of my little projects as something that takes no time whatsoever. I spent quite a long time on each of these, though.. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with them other than make a scrapbook layout at some point. I'd love to do a whole album with photos like these, but we'll see how that goes, as I'm having a hard enough time creating layouts for all the other pictures I have. Anyway, people were suitably impressed, which made me happy and motivated me to finish this one. Sounds shallow, doesn't it? Anyway, my grandfather asked me the other day how I did that to his picture, and if there was any money to be made in it.. rofl. This is extremely high praise from him.. he typically has no use for foolishness like "pretty". (He couldn't believe, for instance, how much money the parents made selling flowers. Refused to accept that some people would buy $100 worth of flowers just to make their house look pretty.) Maybe you'd have to know him.
See the pictures.
Anyway, I guess it's time that I go fix my hair and make M get dressed and ready to leave. I think we might eat out for lunch before heading to Papaw's, so we should get a move on it.
