It's been such a nice weekend! We went to Lexington yesterday and had a lovely time. It was rather like a visit, which were always a little magical and therefore the standard by which we judge a good day. It probably helped that we hadn't been in a while. We also set our minds to buying a few things while we were out.. we often go shopping without purchasing anything. So we bought a computer game, a dvd and a book, and had extremely expensive but nummy ice cream. I don't know why it was all so happy, but it was, and we're not complaining. I guess sometimes you just really appreciate what you have, if that makes sense, which makes the whole day feel like a holiday.

I've finished up the retouching of my granny's picture and am printing it now. Second attempt, hope this one looks better than the first (printed too dark). I don't think I've mentioned that at all, actually. I borrowed these two pictures of my grandmother and grandfather, taken when they were quite young. Papaw said he was in his thirties when his picture was taken, but Granny looks to be about eighteen. I scanned them and did some major clean-up work.. I should post them, shouldn't I? Maybe I will in a minute. Anyway, I finished Papaw's last week and printed four on a page and took them, with the original, to his house on Sunday. I was quite pleased with the response, actually. Usually, they tend to think of my little projects as something that takes no time whatsoever. I spent quite a long time on each of these, though.. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with them other than make a scrapbook layout at some point. I'd love to do a whole album with photos like these, but we'll see how that goes, as I'm having a hard enough time creating layouts for all the other pictures I have. Anyway, people were suitably impressed, which made me happy and motivated me to finish this one. Sounds shallow, doesn't it? Anyway, my grandfather asked me the other day how I did that to his picture, and if there was any money to be made in it.. rofl. This is extremely high praise from him.. he typically has no use for foolishness like "pretty". (He couldn't believe, for instance, how much money the parents made selling flowers. Refused to accept that some people would buy $100 worth of flowers just to make their house look pretty.) Maybe you'd have to know him.

See the pictures.

Anyway, I guess it's time that I go fix my hair and make M get dressed and ready to leave. I think we might eat out for lunch before heading to Papaw's, so we should get a move on it.

Those turned out great! How much time did it take? I was going to take a picture of my grandparents to a place that does restoration but it cost way too much to be a viable option. Maybe you could actually make some money from a business like that.

Thanks! They took.. somewhere around an hour each, I guess. I think the one of my grandfather took longer because I figured out a shortcut at the end of it that made the second one go faster. I don't have the faintest idea how much one would even charge for that sort of thing or how to go about doing it professionally.. I've taught myself what I know so far. I was soo unartsy until recently. :)

You did an excellent job! I love old pictures. I saw that picture of your grandpa and before I even read the caption I thought, "Wow he's lanky!". hahaha That's a very cute picture of your grandma!

Thank you! I love old pictures, too, especially when they're of relatives.

The funny thing about Papaw's height is that Granny was 5'2".. they were even more mismatched than Magnus and I are! (He's about a foot taller than me.)

I'm so envious of your work. Seriously. ;)

One day I want to get into scrapbooking, but it seems so complicated. Just because my creative side kinda takes a hiatus once I start something!

Awww.. *blush* :) But thanks. :)

I'm a little afraid my creative side has taken a leave of absence as well. Hopefully it'll come back, though!

Those pictures are great! I guess that is your Papaw Brack? Is that his name? Sorry if I am incorrect. What is your Granny's name? You know, I just had a great idea, I think? Why don't you scan in your Papaw and Granny's signatures. Put them with the pictures. Not sure you wanna have that on-line, but it would be cool to do if you ever print out the scrap book pages. It would give them an even more personal touch. Has your relatives seen these pictures? I bet Aunts and Uncles are going to want a copy!! Have a great day!

Thanks! And yep, my Papaw Brack. *impressed*. My Granny's name was Evalee. That's a pretty neat idea, having their signatures with it, except I don't have them! I'll think on it if I can find some, though. :)

I printed four copies to give away of each picture and let them fight over it. :) I can print more if they ask, though. Would probably be better (cheaper!) if I let them go print their own, wouldn't it? Hehe. :)
