This has really been quite the best day at work I've had in a while. I don't feel all that negatively towards it all today, which helps. And best of all, I've seen my swedie a bunch of times! He didn't stay long at any visit but it was still nice. He picked me up for lunch and generously allowed me to go anywhere I wanted, including La Finca's (Mexican) even though we had it on Saturday. :) Major luxury. :) I adore that place. Could eat it every day. M gets a little tired of it, for some odd reason.
It was pretty funny because he almost went into a little rant to them about their inability to speak the language. I try to be a little more generous now that I'm struggling to learn a language as an adult myself, but I rather feel that if anyone has the right to be a little grumpy with them (long, boring story involving an incorrect order and a sulky cashier boy and a $3 too high bill) it's him. It's NOT his language, after all. It was really funny, actually, when his parents were here for the wedding. We went there with them and his sister, and there was this long conversation in Swedish going on. The waiter kept giving me these commiserating glances and looking extremely confused. :)
Poor M had a bit of a busier-than-expected day off. He did get some mandolin work in, but not as much as he had planned. He did some running for me and he helped my dad bring a table down here. He decided that he couldn't feel too horribly about it, though, since that's what my days off usually end up as.. errands and such. Still better than being at work no matter how you slice it. I guess I should stop writing about his day now or else he won't have anything to write about himself. :)
I finally got a phone cord and the modem down at the store installed. The problem, of course, is that the modem doesn't actually work. It's a USB modem that M bought in a fit of pique at some point during a disastrous weekend-long reinstall of Windows induced by alcohol. The entire episode could have been avoided entirely had he actually remembered that his previously sober self had unplugged the modem during the thunderstorm earlier.... So. Completely unnecessary, but as it turns out, it's been a terrific modem due to its ease of installation, both in a hardware and software sense. We loaned it to Brad, but it stopped working after we upgraded things for him and tried to reinstall it. We thought it might be an incompatibility problem, but as it turns out, it really was broken. It was specifically not supposed to be used on this continent, though, and we used it extensively for four years or so on both sides of the pond, so we really can't fuss about it too much. Except now we're going to have to scrounge up a modem of some sort so I can get my LJ and email fix during the day. That might make working a little more worthwhile. It's ridiculous how I miss it. :)
