One of "our" authors (Mick Farren) is now blogging. I find that so cool. He's [livejournal.com profile] totte's favorite, and I've become a fan as well, although I'm much less into that sort of thing normally. It was probably the first of the books I've read because M wants me to. In this case, it was for background on one Yancey Slide, a minor demon in Necrom. Yancey is M's longtime "computer name".. I actually thought of him as Yancey for the first couple of years I knew him--including in real life. That kind of faded gradually. I eventually felt stupid referring to my fiance as such. :) Anyway. I just think it's pretty neat. I like the internet. (If you're curious about what kind of stuff Mick Farren writes, I would steer you towards The Time of Feasting and the sequels to that. Necrom was a little on the weird side, although it did have its moments.)

We spent a good while reorganizing the kitchen this evening, and that was after we did some shopping and took the Christmas decorations down, so we were productive today. Nothing more to report, but I will say that it's not actually saving money if you buy something on sale and end up stacking it up until it expires and then throw it away. It's surprising how often we do that.

M told me something kind of funny oday. Last night, I fell asleep on the couch. He woke me up and asked if I was sleepy, and I said no. The joke here, of course, is that I was obviously very sleepy but since I was asleep, I lied about it. What I really found funny, though, was that he found it necessary to wake me up to ask if I was sleepy. We've been living together for three years, man! Can't you pick up on my subtle hints yet?! :)

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] courtesy! (I think she's still off doing the Christmas thing, but I did remember. :) I have every confidence she'll pick up reading her friends list where she left off, though, so I think she'll see this eventually. She's responsible that way. ;))

I'm looking at the beginning of another busy week. It's really amazing how much I find to do around here. I've gotten a pretty good start tonight, though. Tomorrow should be a little easier because of that. I'm feeling a little more on top of things now that Christmas is over. For a day or two, I rather felt like I was never going to get caught up, much less get the things I wanted to get done accomplished. I've been putting off a rather large project, or working on it more slowly than I perhaps should, and I have to get going on it again. Blah blah, you know what they say.. the busiest people still have time to tell you how busy they are. Maybe I'm rationalizing. :)

My cdrw, it seems, has finally bit the dust. M gave it to me when he was here in October of 1999, so I guess it's lived a long and happy life. I get to replace it sometime soon. This is mildly exciting, because my old one wrote at 4x. :) Oops, took a little break there and ordered one from Best Buy. $14.99, hard to turn that down, right? Of course, they want $55 upfront and then two mail-in rebates, but still. They can borrow $40 for eight weeks if they need to as long as they give it back! :) I'm going to keep an eye on them, though.. I've had very bad luck with companies who claim they give rebates but don't. Sears, for one, but that's another rant. (If they claim to give you free delivery rebates, don't believe them!)

M and I are having a long discussion about how funny Swedish fish are. You know, the fish-shaped gummy candy. They have "Swedish" written on them, as if you would actually forget in the middle of your snack what it is you're eating. Does anyone think "Gosh, what is this I'm eating?!" and actually need to look for clues written on the unwrapped food product? And doesn't it look like we would have more interesting things to talk about?

Like water filters. I learn all the time how little I know about anything. Did you know that you're supposed to change the filter on your ice maker? I had never really thought about it. I was complaining about the taste of our ice today and Dad asked me if we'd changed the filter. He installed the thing for us two years ago. Guess what? You're supposed to change those suckers every six months or something. I didn't even know it HAD a filter. Where was I for the last twenty years? Sometimes I think I've drifted through my life in a world of my very own. Probably had my nose stuck in a book when they covered ice filters in Reality 101. I know that I wasn't paying attention when they talked about the Beatles.

I also didn't know that you could buy ventless range hoods. This was really exciting news since our ventilation system in the kitchen sucks major donkey balls. There's constantly a thin layer of grease on tall objects in the kitchen. (Like M, but I try to get him to shower now and then. :) No, not really, but I'm just saying that I'm a very short girl and if there's grease on top of my refrigerator, I'm just not going to climb up there and wipe it off all that often, and it's a struggle to keep it off the spice rack and stuff.) The thing doesn't even come on until I'm done cooking, usually. So anyway, we're gonna get one and call it our second anniversary present. We never did buy ourselves anything.. it's just been over a year now. We suck at stuff like that, and I really think it's because--pardon the mushiness--we celebrate being in love every day instead of once a year. I told my cousin today that M brought me two new Gameboy games home Friday out of the blue. She said, "that close to Christmas, he bought you a present?! Why?!" M stepped into the conversation at that point to inform her that he liked me all year long. :) I thought that was sweet. And also kind of sad when you realize other people aren't like that.
