In which Kisha's dad gets a new job.
Mar. 26th, 2004 01:48 amThe weather was unbelievably great today. Mid 70s, sunny. M woke up earlier than normal this morning--he had had a work-related nightmare. This prompted us to go running around town for a while.. we had lunch and went to WalMart. We tried to go to D's, but they were closed. We did, however, find out their opening hours! This feels like a major victory. There was a sign on the door saying that they would be back next week. M-F: 11am-2pm, Thurs-Sat 5pm-10pm. Such a weird little place.
I was all motivated for a while after we came back, and I initiated some spray-painting of Altoids tins, cleaned out the cars and picked up trash and leaves from the yard. I'm not really an outdoorsy sort, so this was pretty good. That's pretty much all that got done around here, though. I desperately need to clean. I think we're going to be doing some of that tomorrow.
My dad got a new job today! It's a long story, really, but he's going to be driving a school bus now. This isn't really out of the blue or anything.. he's been doing the training for his CDL (big vehicle license, for all you forners (that would be the local word for foreigners) and Yurpns (and the presidential word for Europeans--I realize that Yurpns are also forners, but I just really wanted to use the word.) out there.) for the last two or three weeks. He passed his test with flying colors on Tuesday. Anyway, perhaps in celebration of this, or maybe just because he likes doing stuff like this, he had a little cookout tonight and invited us up. He actually called a little bit early to see if we would come up and help--he spontaneously decided to fry veggies, so I got stuck with the vegetable chopping. It was worth it, though. It almost makes me miss my concessionairre days. I'm feeling a little queasy at the moment, though, so I don't believe I'll think about deep-fried things any more tonight. I don't think the queasiness is related to the food, though. I think it's the scented candle we had burning--or a combination thereof.
When we left my grandfather's house on Sunday evening, I was in a kind of pissy mood. My sweetheart of a husband helped with that immensely, though, by running off through the yard and returning with an Easter lily for me. It was small and not fully bloomed, but as a sign of Spring's arrival, it's pretty hot stuff. I put it in a glass of water and it looks almost as good now as it did when he picked it. And it makes me smile every time I see it. He's so nice.
