Crafty goodness
Mar. 27th, 2004 01:38 amM and I spent the day cleaning the house and getting some horribly boring things done. I worked on content for Mosaic Minds a little bit in the evening, but after we came back from dinner, I couldn't bear the thought of doing web work, so I took the evening off. I might regret it later, but for now, I'm feeling pretty good. ;)
I've been yearning for crafty goodness lately, so tonight, I pulled out a bunch of stuff and decorated an Altoids tin. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
(Actually, I did two boxesm but the other one is not very good and not very done.) Altoids tins are perfect for tatting supplies. Tatting tends to be more portable than (most of.. actually, everything that I can think of but I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable person in the world about these things) other fiber arts--you don't need all that much stuff, and you don't need to keep a heavy eye on it while you're working it, either. In any case, an Altoids tin gives you room for your project and literally every tool you might need while on the road--nail clippers for cutting thread, pieces of plastic to make all of the loops even, tweezers for opening rings, a couple of needles, etc. Anyway. That was not the direction I meant to go in for this post. I’m just explaning my projected usage for this box. Actually, I’m pretty excited about actually getting it all together to be able to use.
The bottom is plain black. I used wrapping paper that I bought on sale at Big Lots last year sometime, cut it up into pieces and reassembled it. I'm particularly happy with the edging around the side. That’s where the other box went wrong--trying to wrap paper around the corners. This one turned out better than I had hoped, though. It has a bit of a rough finish.. I guess I could sand it, but I like the rustic feel. I need to put a lining on the inside, though. Or, more technically, I don’t have to but I think I will. :)
I now officially want to decoupage everything I own.
Also, Mod Podge is what third grade smells like.
