M and I spent the day cleaning the house and getting some horribly boring things done. I worked on content for Mosaic Minds a little bit in the evening, but after we came back from dinner, I couldn't bear the thought of doing web work, so I took the evening off. I might regret it later, but for now, I'm feeling pretty good. ;)

I've been yearning for crafty goodness lately, so tonight, I pulled out a bunch of stuff and decorated an Altoids tin. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. (Actually, I did two boxesm but the other one is not very good and not very done.) Altoids tins are perfect for tatting supplies. Tatting tends to be more portable than (most of.. actually, everything that I can think of but I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable person in the world about these things) other fiber arts--you don't need all that much stuff, and you don't need to keep a heavy eye on it while you're working it, either. In any case, an Altoids tin gives you room for your project and literally every tool you might need while on the road--nail clippers for cutting thread, pieces of plastic to make all of the loops even, tweezers for opening rings, a couple of needles, etc. Anyway. That was not the direction I meant to go in for this post. I’m just explaning my projected usage for this box. Actually, I’m pretty excited about actually getting it all together to be able to use.

The bottom is plain black. I used wrapping paper that I bought on sale at Big Lots last year sometime, cut it up into pieces and reassembled it. I'm particularly happy with the edging around the side. That’s where the other box went wrong--trying to wrap paper around the corners. This one turned out better than I had hoped, though. It has a bit of a rough finish.. I guess I could sand it, but I like the rustic feel. I need to put a lining on the inside, though. Or, more technically, I don’t have to but I think I will. :)

I now officially want to decoupage everything I own.

Also, Mod Podge is what third grade smells like.

That is so cool!! I don't have any altoids tins, but I do have a few odd ones that I've been wanting to decorate somehow. I never thought to use them for tatting stuff! Now I'll know what to do with it once I craft it up. hehe

Thanks. :) It's really perfect for all the odds and ends of tatting. I actually started buying Altoids just because of the tin--it's often suggested on the mailing lists and stuff.

Thanks! The sheet music was just laying out on M's desk, but I thought it was cute. It's right in front of the words "A. Variation" which made me smile since this is a variation of a mint tin! :)

Thanks! I think you can use Elmer's glue or equivalent, preferably somewhat watered down. I was reading about that last night.. though they said that Elmer's might be a little more inclined to wrinkle and be harder to work with.

Well, of course I had to Google for Altoids, just to see what they are, as I'm so nosy. And I discovered why you have at least two spare tins when I read "Chewing this 'curiously strong' mint before fellatio enhances the pleasure".

'Nough said!

I love the decoupage, though I'm neither patient nor clever enough to attempt it myself. I had several hat boxes back home that I bought at a craft fair that were decoupaged and really beautiful, lustrous and quite sensual.

I actually have several more awaiting decoration. ;)

It was extremely easy, actually. You would do fine, I'm sure.. I have faith in your cleverness!

Love the Altoid tin! Very cool. Isn't decoupage the greatest?
