Sad.

I got an urgent call from my mom this evening--my grandmother had gone missing. She has Alzheimer's, although it was rather mild until very recently. She was supposed to be waiting in the car at the clinic while my grandfather went in to schedule an appointment or something, but when he returned, she was missing. I guess him and my uncle's wife (who happened to be out there) searched for her for twenty or thirty minutes before they called my dad and the police, and my mom called me, and we all headed out to look for her. Mom called again to ask me to stop by their house on the way there to make sure she hadn't gotten home somehow. Imagine my surprise when we pulled into the driveway--and saw her standing there trying to get the door open. It was completely terrifying. Their house is about a mile from the clinic, and we have no idea how she got there. She told me to begin with that she walked, but then she told Dad that a woman had brought her, but she couldn't remember who it had been, and then she told my mom that my grandfather brought her home. (Mom said something to the effect of "well, he's a pretty good fellow then, isn't he?" and she nodded solemnly and said that he sure was the best.) :) She asked me when my brothers and sisters were coming... and later tonight, she told someone that her girl had been there but left and never did come back--she always did wish she had a daughter, and tonight I fit the bill. I guess that's as much of a silver lining as I can find right now.

I've been planning on writing about this, but I just don't feel much up to it tonight--the bed is calling my name. Loudly. I guess that's pretty much the only thing of excitement in the day--I went to lunch with my mom and let the boys fend for themselves, and they played computer games in the afternoon except for a ride up to look around on Poppy Mountain. I don't know what the plan is for tomorrow, but I have a feeling that there will be some television time--that silly Japanese extreme elimination show on Spike is running for several hours. I must say that it can be very funny but for the love of cheese, won't those two asshats stop making offensive sexist remarks? Completely ruins the show. Anyway, off to bed before I fall asleep in my chair. That would be embarrassing.
