Something I completely forgot to write about the other day! We went to Natural Bridge and hiked to the top, which I mentioned. It's about three quarters of a mile, and I guess the trail isn't too tough or anything. Anyway, when we were perhaps a little more than halfway there, we began hearing a troupe of singing wood elves. It was extremely cool because there were just these echoing, disjointed voices floating around us with the gentle breeze--I realize that's a pretentious way of putting it but it was exactly like that. We were walking along in a movie--namely, a Lord of the Rings movie, with the floating melody to cover the sound of our breathing. We sat down for a few minutes in a gazebo to rest for a second, and it was then that they began moving into eyesight, and then the sounds were close enough to make out the words.

Our wood elves were singing "Up Where We Belong".

It was a little surreal in a somewhat undefinable way. They were actually quite good, though--and a little embarrassed when they saw us sitting there, watching and listening to them. I was honestly disappointed when they faded out of earshot.

In other news, we had an excellent day yesterday. We did some light shopping in Lexington, including a bookstore (where I got New Spring for half off) and a Hallmark store that's going out of business. The boys were quite bored with me but I bought a lot of stuff for very cheap. When there's a 50%-75% off sale, you have to linger over it!

We were a few minutes early (yet they dragged me away from my sale anyway! The indignity of it all!) to go to Jenny and Andy's house, so we stopped at a Walgreen's to look for glycerine. M needs it to flatten a veneer for the mando project and was told that drug stores usually have it. So. We go in and look around for glycerine unsuccessfully before M finally goes up to ask two young sales girls where it might be. They gave him a very strange look before stuttering that it was in aisle 9, and looking quite mirthful as we walked off. What we didn't know and the clerks did was that glycerine is sold as a laxative suppository. It was quite funny, really.. and I guess it did explain the strange looks they were giving us. We're still on the lookout for glycerine sold in some form other than capsules, incidentally--that's all they had.

Anyway, we decided to go to Joseph-Beth (which is a most excellent bookstore with a cafe attached) and eat outside on the second-floor patio, and that was extremely pleasant. The food was frankly not all that wonderful, but the atmosphere was great--the weather was perfect, we were just by the railing overlooking a small lake/large pond, and on the first floor next door, there was another restaraunt with a man sitting outside with his guitar, so the background noise floated up but wasn't overpowering. (Or $3 per person, as happened at that other place in Morehead last week.) It also has the terrific benefit of being just next door to the comedy club we were going to. That, by the way, was great. Very very funny, and I rather expect that we'll be going back there somewhat regularly.

Afterwards, we detoured past a Kroger to pick up a few essentials (like beer, and ice cream) and then back to Jenny and Andy's house, where we ended up playing Trivial Pursuit. We didn't leave their house until 2:15 (I was driving, just if you're keeping score on the beer there, and I certainly wasn't drinking) and so we didn't get to bed until around 4. Really rather an excellent day, in my opinion. Good company, good humor, etc. Except that Jenny and I didn't win at Trivial Pursuit--but hey, there were two of us and three of them, and we were ahead during the entire game.. they just got their center question before we did. :)

Today has been pretty slow and lazy.. we spent almost a full hour talking about what to do, and by then it was after two, so we just stayed home to play games. I'll cook dinner in an hour or so, and then the boys are going to go check out the drag racing in Owingsville at 7:30. I would rather take a beating than go to something like that, so I guess I'll take some girl time to myself. ;) Tomorrow, we're looking at grilling out down at the lake, and then Monday, we have to take him to the airport.

Busy busy but having fun. Now, though, I think my gameboy and I will have a little private time while the boys play computer games. Even more excitement! :)
