We were up early this morning to call the rental office. The lady there finally talked to the new boss and verified that I'm going to be working there, so we loaded up the car and headed off. We packed twelve large boxes last night (we just stopped because we ran out) and we took several of them with us. Also, we took my mom. She's been extremely helpful and good-natured about everything, especially considering that she's unhappy with the idea of us moving. She was a lot of help today, and between the three of us, we got the lease signed, paid the rent for the remainder of the month, had the utilities switched over to our name, and cleaned the entire place, top to bottom. I reek of bleach. It looked pretty clean, for the most part, but of course we wanted to make sure of that ourselves. Really, the only thing we didn't do was shampoo the carpet. Supposedly, that's already been done, but you never know. I think we might borrow my aunt's vacuum thing after we're settled in. That way, we'll know for sure that it's been done. It's berber carpet so you can't really tell, but it does kind of smell of detergent. Still.

So. Feeling much much better about everything now that we definitely have a place to live. We took some pictures of the inside, but the camera is in the living room, and I completely don't want to get up right now. Hard work, that.

You know what's really neat? Apparently, a bunch of stuff in Frankfort is run by the city and centralized in one building--electric, sewage, etc. At least, that's the way I understood it. In any case, it apparently includes cable. We're going to get the approximate same digital cable package as we have right now, plus internet access, and it's going to cost forty dollars a month less than we're paying now. (Perhaps that will do something to help allay the fears of everyone who can't believe we'll be able to pay our bills!) Incredible. The downside is that it'll be five to seven days from the time we call them. First, we need to buy a modem and go down there with $180 for a deposit ($180! That's completely crazy! Plus the $100 we had to give the electric people! Aargh!) Then we have to call them with the info from the modem. It sure will be sad to have no internet access at home for a week. I guess we'll live, though. Maybe we'll even do something crazy, like.. unpack.

Incidentally, my haircut looks a little crappy today, but for some reason, I think it'll look better tomorrow. I'm not giving up hope yet. It's humid in that pre-rain sort of way, so I think that didn't help matters.

Anyway, I lost track of what I was saying. It seems now that we're going to have a covered (bread) truck on Friday afternoon, and we're going to do the big move on Saturday. I would rather have liked to be in there before that to have a little time to relax and unpack before I start work, but I guess this will be fine, too. It looks like we'll have to miss the Syttende Mai picnic with the Scandinavian Heritage people on Saturday, though, which sucks. I guess we'll live, though. Tomorrow, I think we'll get up early, take care of the modem, head down there to pay the deposit and also do some necessary shopping--but we should be back relatively early to do some more packing. We'll finish up the packing on Friday and start loading the truck. I can't believe we're actually moving so soon. I haven't even known that I got the job for a week yet!

Speaking of work, I had two letters from them today. I don't know much else about them yet, but I must say that they make an extraordinary amount of effort with the hiring process--very well done. One of the letters told me specifically where to go on my first day and what I'll be doing and with who. Pretty neat, especially for us worry-warts that like to know exactly what's going on.

Anyway. There's one thing to be said for busy full days like this--I'm more than ready for bed hours earlier than our normal time. I guess my normal time has been shifted backwards, actually, which is good. It kind of freaks me out that I'm still waking up before the alarm goes off, though...
