lying liars

To make driving time less obnoxious, M and I have started listening to audio books. Right now, we're listening to Al Franken's Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. It's very sharp and very funny. I got caught up for a few minutes reading the reviews at Amazon. I think it must be a tiresome time in history to have books published (although I'd take it if I could get it!) because there's always Amazon and similar, readily available to read what everyone in the world thinks of your writing. In any case, it never fails to amuse me how people give one star to books just to drag down the ratings of content they don't agree with--and even more so to read what they write to support their claim that the book "sux". One such review, reprinted here in its entirety with no permission whatsoever:

Al Franken has no view on politics he does not know politicts he was on Third Rock the one time he was good at politics. My dad hated him on SNL but I thought he was okay as Stuart Smalley

but he does not know anything at all no experience what so ever at all is necessary for these books.Hes not like General Brokaw who has tons of experience.I say this book is a disgrace to politics and the only thing worse is Micheal Moore I will pass.

Everyone knows that the real racist are the Liberals they pick everyone out as just being black. My grandpa is a Liberal and he is 79 and he hates Black people me and my dad and my other grandpa who is deceased were not liberal and not Racist. My Grandpa said the words I like Gonzaga because they are white I said Grandpa black people are cool don't diss them.
Uhhh.. yeah. That's a very enlightened view, there, Bubba, and I bet you'll really influence lots of other people to share your politics. It's terrifying, really. Of course, sometimes you can go a bit far with that sort of thing [back to the book, not Bubba], and sometimes you can say similar things about the other side, but people who can't see that, for instance, Bill O'Reilly is an obnoxious waste of space on earth really really disturb me. I hate that bastard. I actually can't even speak his name without adding that sentence. And how can you not look at Dick Cheney--even if you, for some unearthly reason, happen to feel that Bush is the savior of humankind--and think "gee, that man is so not evil!" Without being any more political than this, it really creeps me out to have a vice-president who.. creeps me out so thoroughly. Evil. *shudder*

Anyway, enough of that. I just wanted to recommend the book, which is really very good. Lots of very interesting stuff. I guess I shouldn't write about politics, but that's the most interesting thing I did today.. I feel a little bad for writing such boring stuff lately, and then not having the time or energy to follow up on any of it, either. I'm hoping that life will be generally returning to normal this week or next--until then, I need a bubble bath and a nice long nap. And super-cool headphones that don't make my eardrums itch. And a pony.

Oh! No, there was one other thing that was interesting and fun about my day! My hubbly one heard and identified on the radio a brand new Counting Crows song, from the Shrek 2 soundtrack, and he found the lyrics and played the song for me on the way back to work from lunch. Yay me! It's surprisingly feel-good and happy, but very nice. I'm so lucky. :)
