Weekend.

The weekend is here, the weekend is here!

Even though it was a short week, it was a long one to me, and it feels good to have two full days off. I've been actually doing some stuff at work besides listening to training tapes--busy work, for the most part, but I'm learning a lot more this way than with the tapes, I think. Still yet, it's lovely to have a break from learning stuff.

The second-best thing about today (just after it being the weekend) is that the package of keyboard sliders arrived today! Both of our desks broke a little bit in the move, but M called the company (after trying to buy new keyboard shelves and being told to just call them and tell them that they broke) and they sent out two sets, no questions asked, no charge. Pretty nifty. I've been going absolutely crazy with my keyboard and mouse on top of my desk instead of on the slide-out shelf. It was a fun little surprise when I came home.. a Happy Friday present, so to speak. I finally have a semi-clean desk, which kind of makes it feel more like home. It's not that my desk is usually perfectly straight, but it never had a keyboard on top of it.

We had a bit of excitement when we settled in to watch our movie tonight, but I think I should leave it for M to tell, or not tell, as he sees fit. It's really his story, more than mine. It all worked out in the end, though, and we watched the last of the LotR movies tonight. That was fun but now I'm sleepy and I can't get the boyo to come upstairs and go to bed. Guess that means I'll have to go without him!

I didn't realize how bad I felt about the mess in the kitchen until we got it cleaned up today. We had everything unpacked, but it was in utter chaos--stuff like a bag of rice in a pot over the stove next to three dishrags. We just didn't have time or space to get everything in the right spot after running through the dishwasher. But.. the fishtank took up a LOT of space in its temporary home, and all the cupboards were in disarray. I honestly think those are the two biggest factors (fishtank + mess) in how often we've ate out since the move. Hopefully, I can start back in with the cooking now. M very clearly wasn't all that interested in working on it today, but he stuck around and helped anyway. I think we're both pretty glad we did, because the kitchen actually looks nice now, and the thought of cooking no longer gives me hives, which is always a good thing.

I'm occasionally--but unreliably--a little brilliant at coming up with The Absolute Perfect Place to put an item. I worked my magic in a major way with one thing today, and I'm almost embarrassed to admit it. It makes us sound really stupid. The fish tank that we've been bitching about for three weeks? The one we couldn't find a place for without buying a stand, but couldn't find the right stand and were therefore thinking of giving our fishies away? Yeah. Well. I realized today that we could actually put them on another part of the kitchen counter, and they would a) look nice b) be out of the way and c) be closer to the sink even than now. It looks pretty nice now, although we might still be keeping an eye out for a stand. Now I have lots of pretty counter space! In our defense, that part of the counter had previously been covered with other stuff, and it's partially hidden behind the refridgerator, so it's not the most obvious thing in the world. Still. Very happy about that. It was funny, too, because after we moved them, Larry settled down in the corner and stared directly out of the front for a long time. It looked for all the world like he was saying "hey! This is different than before! Wow!"

I just get so jealous that I can't tell fun pet stories..

We went to the Capital Expo festival thing that was going on in town--it was quite nice, actually. There were a lot of really neat things, and we ran into the tatting lady first thing. We talked for a good while about tatting-related stuff, which was kind of fun. Except for the online tatting groups, I never get to talk about my fixation with shuttles with anyone. She's just as good at framing as tatting, I think.. all the stuff looks really really neat. I would really like to frame more of my stuff, but it costs a fortune. She said she ordered her stuff wholesale. Just occured to me that i could look at frames online.. I don't know why I never thought of that.

In other news, we went to Wal-Mart today and didn't buy a single thing we went after. We had fun with the self-check-out though--and we did remark on how cheap it was. I guess that should have been a clue that we had forgotten something..
