Officially here.
Jun. 12th, 2004 10:54 pmWe no longer live in Morehead.
We have now officially moved out--the last of our stuff is sitting in boxes and piles in the living room, and we're done with the cleaning at the trailer, too. I'm pretty relieved to have that over with. Yesterday was one of those days when you just don't move as quickly as you would like, and I was afraid we wouldn't get done and it would still be hanging over my head. We arrived in Morehead at around noon, as planned, but we met my parents for lunch and that became a lengthy undertaking. It usually does--my mom is one of the world's slowest eaters. It was already past one, but we had to stop at the dollar store and pick up some paper towels and garbage bags and soap--I completely freak out if I can't wash my hands, so I wasn't about to get started on heavy cleaning without some way of cleaning up every now and then, and all the soap had already been moved. Then when we finally got back and began work, M had to go get a vacuum cleaner from my parents while I started cleaning--and realizing that I completely wasn't in the mood to clean. That didn't seem to matter, so I began anyway.
Half an hour later, my parents drop by, with my grandfather close behind them. Here is where it gets a little odd--my grandfather has a woman with him. Actually, it's not so much A woman as THAT woman--the one who called his house all the time a year or two ago. She had the major hots for him. He goes to the senior citizen's center quite a bit--they serve lunch during the week, and there are plenty of people around to talk to. His sister is there a lot, as well. I don't really know how he handled this woman's calls, but I guess she got the hint that he wasn't interested in a romantic relationship with her, and as far as I know, she stopped pursuing him. He brought her to town yesterday with him because she had to pick up some medicine and didn't have a way down to get it.. so really, nothing suspicious in any case. Now, I wouldn't begrudge my grandfather a girlfriend--it would be a little awkward, perhaps, but my grandmother has been gone for over a decade now, and I think it would be nice for him to have someone to socialize with. But.. Lordy, not her. The woman was nuttier than a fruitcake. She stood in the doorway for five minutes talking about how hot it was, but we had to be almost rude to get her to come inside so we could shut the door and stop letting the cool air out. Then she interrupted conversations right and left to talk about things that didn't relate to anything else in the world. I managed to slip away early on to get back to work, but M got caught in the living room and had to stand around being polite for quite some time before I called him into the bathroom on the pretext of needing help. My parents were also stuck, although they weren't really put out by it at all since they weren't trying to get anything done at the moment. I don't know what my grandfather really thinks about her, although I am, at least, pretty sure he's not looking at her as anything other than a friend. I just don't know how I could stand it if I had to stand there and listen to her talk about her pee-a-lot pills every week. But at least she didn't spontaneously break into song, like she did later in the day at my aunt's house.
