May. 29th, 2005 01:54 amHi, Internets!
(Pardon in advance for typos, this is one of those weird Sveeedish keyboards and all my Ps and Qs aren't where they’re supposed to be. Actually, the P and Q are exactly where they're supposed to be.. it's all those weird letters off to the left there.) Anyway, we're here safe and sound, and this--one in the morning on Saturday/Sunday--is the first time we've had a chance to do the internet thing. The first part of the trip was super-booked, which we knew in advance. And we had a tiny little snafu that caused yesterday to be much more stressful than we had planned.
We got stuck in Oslo.
Thanks to the lovely lady who insisted that we wait for her party for an extra fifteen minutes, our flight (supposed to arrive at 8:45, next flight left at 10:25) was late (10:28.. bah!), and then we were at the back of the plane and then we had to get through passport control, though why we had to do that when we were going on is something that vexed the tall one very much, and by then, it was way too late.. we stood in that darned line and watched it leave.. so we didn't quite make it on time. But, no problem! We had even talked about this beforehand. It was a SAS flight! Oslo to Stockholm every hour! Yeah. True. All full, but we had to see about eight of them leave for Stockholm before we boarded ourselves for our 4:30 flight. Oi. And even that we could have been okayish with if that stupid bitch hadn't given the 2:15 flight to the lady who held up the plane, or if the eight passengers from our flight in the same situation but behind us in line hadn't been given the 2:30 flight, we later found out.
Never fly Continental. More on that later.
Anyway, so we're here and all is well. Very busy. We arrived just in time for dinner yesterday and had a pleasant evening with his family, culminating with a quite-a-bit-longer-than-planned walk around the neighborhood before we fell into bed at 10ish. Not bad for having less than two hours of bad sleep the night before. We were up early this morning to go to a veteran car market in Wärsta. This is the one I was dreading because last year, I was totally miserable because it was freezing. The weather was much nicer this time.. near 70, at least part of the time. As a reward for my attendance. which was somewhat against my will, I stumbled upon quite a find first thing in the morning. Eight doilies, 5 kronor each. (Eh, six bucks or so, less than a dollar a piece. Exchange rate not so good now, which is giving us both sticker shock on a regular basis.) And.. four of them (I think) were tatted. *boggle* Two of them I think might be cro-tatting, and a couple are crocheted. And my mother-in-law came by at that point and said that she had closets full of crocheted stuff and I could take what I wanted, so I'll probably be seeing some more pretties before we leave. Nifty. Ahh, a story only the crafty nerds will appreciate.
After we got home, we had a quickie nap, and then fika to hold us over before dinner at Blatt's at seven. Fika is kind of.. coffee and dessert/snack. Then we were off to the train. But, alas, that didn't quite work, as they stopped the thing at the very next stop and said, "Hey, get off unless you want to go back to Märsta, cause there's a big to-do at Karlverg and we can't tell you what it is but the trains, they're not so much running anymore." Shwoop, shwoop, and btw, if I can't understand the language, then I by golly get to make up my own interpretations in the retelling. (Found out just now, on TV, that there was a bomb. Only, not a bomb, an empty cannon shell. No more info.) We rode back to the last station (Helenelund) and his dad came to take us to Blatt's, so we still made it almost on time. Had a nice dinner and drinks with him, and then we took a taxi home after getting a busy signal for fifteen solid minutes. (I mention this only because we were feeling pretty sure we weren't going to be getting home via taxi any time soon, and I was thinking that it was going to be the third time we were stuck because of our mode of transportation, and contemplating how likely it would be that we arrived home on time next Sunday.) Taxi: 445 kronor. 64 bucks if you assume a 7 kronor exchange rate, which is kind of what it's running right now, but that makes me queasy so I'm just going to say it cost about $35. Which, still makes me a little queasy, but less so!
Anyway, we've taken some pictures and stuff and I would like to post them ala Secret Agent Josephine, of whom I am too lazy to create a link because the brackets are NOT WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE, but we kind of left Blatt's cause we (mainly me) were getting so sleepy we (I) couldn't hold our eyes open. So, I guess it's off to bed. Tomorrow might be more relaxed until evening because we may not be going to the day's scheduled activity (veteran car show, not market, as I said previously) at Skansen, which his dad organized. But then, dinner with extended family in the evening, so not sure what our plans are going to be, but I have high hopes of sleeping as long as possible. I am still not feeling quite like a normal human being. Then again, when am I ever, right?
