I bought stuff for pizza yesterday at the grocery store. We haven't had it for a while, but we made a lot of these pizzas with pre-bought crusts for a while. (I feel so lame for admitting that I don't make crusts from scratch all the time, and even lamer for implying in this sentence that I normally do when in truth, I've only bothered with it about five times.) Anyway, tonight is pizza night, so I went downstairs to start on the preparations. I got everything out of the fridge, washed my green pepper and cut it up, along with an onion, and opened a can of mushrooms (yeah, yeah) and a can of tomato sauce. Then, everything ready for assembly, I got out the pan and slit open the crusts.
It was covered in blue moldy spots.
EWWW. Actually, if I had even THOUGHT to look at the actual crust in the store, I would have seen it through the packaging. But I'm buying something that I've bought a bunch of times before and doesn't expire until October! Why would I look for mold?! It's funny, actually, because I went to the store on my afternoon break, and had to lug in two bags full of refridgerated stuff to stick in the fridge at work. And since it was so close to the end of the day, I thought.. hmm.. I ought to just leave this stuff in the car. An hour outside the fridge won't hurt! But, I didn't because of the heat. If I had gone with my initial impulse, I would now be sitting here wondering if it was because of their short stint out of the fridge even while knowing that it shouldn't matter. But, I was good even though I didn't want to be and now I have a clear conscience for writing them a letter about it.
Thank goodness for Papa John's, that's all I can say.
