Bitchy bugs
Jun. 20th, 2005 10:08 pmI have discovered a wonderful, wonderful way to get things marked out on my to-do list--I have someone else do them! I've put several things on my list lately that M ultimately did.. most of them I put on the list knowing that it was his responsibility. It's so satisfying to mark these things out, and when you don't actually have to work to do so, it's even better! To be fair, I put them on the list because I did have a task to do regarding them--nagging my husband. Husband nagging is a very important responsibility, you know.
On a similar note, I might as well say that M sent me an email today that said something like, "You think you have all the answers, huh?" and I immediately replied with "OF COURSE I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS. I'M THE GIRL." And, better yet, he actually let me get away with it. ;) You know, if you listen to the snippets of our conversations that I share with people, you might come to the conclusion that we are horribly mean to each other and won't make it through another year. The perverse part is just that we actually enjoy it.
For example, I recently told a story that goes something like this. Before we left for Sweden, I was kind of excited about the opportunity to possibly wear the scarf that I finished knitting after the cold weather season no longer permitted me to wear it. M, however, talked me out of bringing it because he claimed that it was too late for scarves, no one would be wearing them, and it would most likely be too warm. (HA! I say. HA!) Anyway, as you might have surmised, the weather would gladly have accomodated a scarf. In fact, there were several days when we were walking around outside that I would have liked to have one on. And, like any good nagging wife, I made several references to how I wished that I had my scarf with me, but someone said I wouldn't need it. Finally, M said, "Well, if you had it, then you wouldn't have anything to bitch about, would you?"
The nice thing, though, is that it's always in jest and neither of us have ever taken offense at something like that. Actually, it's pretty nice because it tends to take the edge off the whining and complaining on both sides, and it gives us an excellent outlet for our bountiful supplies of sarcasm. My brother and his wife used to seem to enjoy fighting. I never really understood that, but the scathing remarks.. we're all over those.
One of my big goals right now is to finish editing M's book. I gave myself a deadline of the end of July. Secretly, I'd rather have it done by the end of June, but I'm not seeing that happening at the current rate somehow--I'm on page 71 of 227. In any case, I'm now finally on to the parts that I haven't edited before, which makes it a lot easier to motivate myself. I'm just hoping that I will reenforce my accountability if I write about it here. Today's total: 10 pages.
