geek girl strikes back: wheel of time
Oct. 11th, 2005 09:24 pmI don't know how I misjudged so horribly that I am still on book four of Wheel of Time on the day of the eleventh book release. Well, I do. I thought I had another week, for one thing, which.. I wouldn't be done in a week either (just misremembered the date.) Also, last time I read it, I wasn't working, so I misjudged the amount of time I can spend reading this time around. But more importantly, when it was finally time to start on it, I wasn't in the mood anymore and put it off for quite some time while rereading old romance favorites. Oh, well. I should have started back in July or so when I first thought of it.. at the time I just didn't want to leave too much of a gap between reading book ten and starting on the new one.
I thought I could wait without a problem, but as it turned out, I couldn't. I've gone back and forth on the subject but my latest plan was to wait until October 24, when Robert Jordan is doing a book-signing in Lexington. But then I realized this afternoon that I wouldn't go anyway because it's a Monday night (not one of my Mondays off) and I would have to drive all the way there after work and either meet M or go alone and I wasn't about to hang around JoBeth for hours just to squeak hello and say something dumb. I am NOT the fangirl type. Actually, M is always talking about sitcoms giving him dumbchills.. those shudders you get from being uncomfortable about something. Well, people throwing themselves at famous people give me dumbchills. No offense intended if you don't feel that way. I'm just kind of shy in most ways. Anyway. Today I realized, as I said earlier to one of you, that the world would probably end if I didn't at least buy the thing on the intended date, so I ran off to WalMart during break to buy my copy--I do my part to keep you all safe. *nods* And now it's lying beside my desk and I am having a really hard time not picking it up.
Anyway. That's pretty much all that happened today that was of interest, and that.. eh, not so much. Took a nap. And read a lot, much as always the last few days. (Today I reached the section that I posted about two years ago. I love that part!) And that is, of course, a really bad conclusion to this post in order to go read some more. Nightnight.
