Unexpected goodness: the hotel does have free wireless access even though it says on its website that it doesn't. And it even works this time! It's like the first time I've gotten to use the laptop for its intended travel purpose successfully! The bad news, though, is that I forgot to bring the charger, and there is an estimated 56 minutes remaining. Crap. At least I have time to post a little something and read through friends.
Well, actually, I suppose I should mention that whole hotel thing. Since yesterday was our fifth anniversary, we got up in the morning and kind of thought.. HMMM, we didn't go to Gatlinburg last weekend. Hey, why don't we go this weekend? And so we did. I took off work at lunch and ran home to pack up our stuff and picked M up at work (note to self: please, please, please don't forget the car tomorrow!) and we were here by dinner. I even, for the first time ever, reserved a room before we even got here, and this room happens to have a jacuzzi in it. That is very, very nice and when we're rich we're totally going to have one of those.
Anyway, we've been having a good time and have been shopping like crazy. Books, mainly. And.. kitchen gadgetry. They're all about the outlet malls here but when I think "outlet mall" I think about malls full of stores in which there is cheap merchandise. NOT THE CASE. Most of the stores are either really crappy or really expensive and pretending to be cheap. I got really offended tonight by a store called Music for a Song. The CDs were like, $18! Hello! No one in the world thinks that's cheap! The book stores have cheap stuff, though.. except the selection is very random and limited. Still, we perservere. ;) There has also been copious amounts of food and much walking but sadly, no pie. :( But a Ben & Jerry's "outlet"! We didn't go in because it was clearly not an outlet and I can buy B&J at WalMart, but I approve of the concept.
Perhaps the funniest thing about today was issued under the effects of dehydration this morning. I wasn't feeling all that chipper when we left here.. I kept thinking.. man, when can we go home?! Then I realized that I was thirsty, and after lunch, where I drank a whole bunch of iced tea and then a full liter of water, I started feeling much less tired and much more cheerful. Anyway, we had just arrived at our first shopping destination, and M was pulling into the parking lot. I probably shouldn't tell this story because I don't think most people get our humor and think that we're either mean or just plain odd.. which is also true but whatever. Anyway, he looks over in my direction, which prompts me to say, completely out of the blue, "What are you looking at? Are you looking at me? DON'T LOOK AT ME." It was really funny. Trust me.
One more thing and then I'll stop rambling, read my stuff and pass this over to M. I had a most enlightening conversation with my mom yesterday. I called her to let her know we were heading out of town and we were talking about a few different things, and somehow, she started talking about how she had told someone just the other day that she was so surprised that [another person] and I--both of us always so independent and opinionated--had ended up with men that told us what to do and what to think. *blink* I didn't say anything at first, just blinked in surprise for a few minutes while she expounded, but finally I said "I do not!" and she said, "Now, think about it! You do too!" It was somewhat of a shock to find that one out, since generally, we talk stuff out and arrive at mutual decisions. It's kind of funny, really. M was greatly intrigued by that whole thing about me thinking what he tells me to since he had really never noticed this behavior. ;)
