When my alarm went off at six, it occurred to me that getting up would be stupid. Go to work when I'm sick even though I have a free day this week anyway? That's silly. So here I am, blissfully at home. It's not even costing me any sick time, which I tend to guard jealously against a repeat of last winter's continual sickness. And I really don't feel nearly as bad as yesterday, so I can even enjoy it. I couldn't fall asleep again, but hey, there are some advantages to getting up early when you don't have to go to work. I had had breakfast, read the internets and my book, and had a bubble bath, of all things, by 8:30. Not too shabby, as ways to start the day go. Oddly enough, since I gave myself total permission to relax and do nothing today, I have actually managed to get two Big Important Things off my to-do list. On one of them (I will post photos when the glue is dry enough to put on the scanner but I don't want to post it publicly because it's a Christmas gift and you never know) I really had to laugh at myself and how my exacting standards for a certain hobby of mine can be fudged a little when it comes right down to the last minute. But, you know, when the needle you're working with snaps clear in half (!!) then that's a sign from above that you should take the shortcut and use glue. The other thing was writing an article. Speaking of articles.. if anyone ever wants to submit a technology type article for Sapphire Wire/Mosaic Minds, you're more than welcome to send it on. I am running low on ideas of late.

I've also talked to M twice today, both time about work. As I have bitched about previously, he works from 8:00 - 6:00, Monday through Friday.. on paper. In all actuality, he gets there somewhere between 7:30 and 7:50, rarely takes a break, typically has a nine minute lunch, and then has to stay until.. 6:30, 7:00, whatever. Then he drives 40 minutes home. By the time he gets here, it is at LEAST 6:45, but that hasn't really happened much in months. 7:30 is more like it. Then he has to have dinner, which usually involves prep time because his schedule means I don't cook much on weekdays. By then, it's 8:00 and he has two hours to do the things he wants before it's bedtime. It sucks for me since we barely see each other through the week, but mainly I really hate it that he has no time to do stuff and no time alone because he's working more than fifty hours a week.

Anyway, the major point of the scheduling thing is that beginning Thursday, he will now work from 7:45 to 4:15, and he will get to leave at 4:15 regardless of whether the other guy is there or not. (This is why he always has to stay past 6:00.) So.. he'll be home twenty minutes after I am, and we can actually do stuff like normal people again! Like cook dinner! And go to WalMart! And he can actually have time to himself. Well, time to himself with me, at least. :) The downside is that he might or might not have to work every other Saturday, in which case he'll get a Thursday or Friday off instead that week. So even if he does have to work on Saturdays, he'll still have fewer hours and I will still see him more. So.. not too thrilled about Saturdays but it's looking like it will be better, overall, and there's still the chance that he might not have to work on the weekend at all. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyway, I'd better go now. I need to make a broccoli casserole for the holiday dinner at work tomorrow, and I suppose I should get started on it. I'm not feeling as chipper as I was earlier, so I'm foreseeing an early bedtime.
