Although you may be tired of hearing the excruciating details about our house by now, I am nowhere near done writing about it. For one thing, I am utterly fascinated by how quickly this is moving, and also, this is exactly the sort of thing that I started journaling in order to remember the details about. Besides, it's also the kind of thing that I personally like reading about when you all do fun exciting things like that.

The home inspection was this morning, so we arrived at the house at 8:30. It had rained all night, which was actually very good. Rain shows problems that you can't see when it's dry, and our realtor had said to begin with that the best time to schedule one was when it was raining. (Which, of course you can't schedule it like that but very good that it happened to be so!) I asked a guy at work who I should get to do the inspection, and he told me a company. This was another guy who came out, but we were both extremely satisfied. It cost $275 and I am telling you this because it is some of the best money we have spent so far... if nothing else for the peace of mind.

As for the results.. they were good. The inspector said specifically that it was a sound house that had been taken care of well. There were a few issues, but they were all very small. The listing realtor was there, who attends the church that owns the house, and as she left she said, "Just let us know what we need to fix!" So we're preparing a list to send to our realtor tonight, and there are a few things that we'll fix, but none of them will be expensive or time-consuming, and nothing was a real danger to the actual structure of the house. As neither M nor I are all that skilled at detecting such problems, especially me, it was so relieving to hear someone say that the house wasn't going to fall down around us in the next six months. It's a lot of money we're signing over, after all!

After we left there, M did a bunch of really productive things like transferring money from the Swedish account (always a nice time to have extra money in the bank account) and going down to the social security office to get his new card applied for (has been on the list since September) and grocery shopping. Meanwhile, we also confirmed rates and dates with the loan officer, and then M stopped to get me on his way home from the store and we drove out to visit our landlords. M had called and they told him to bring in 30 days notice. As they do pro-rate the last month's rent (yay nice people!) we figured it would be pretty good to get that over with today. We also paid the (reduced) rent for next month while we were there, so perhaps we won't have to go back out there again.

I know this is a stupid thing to say but this whole house thing costs a lot of money. I can't wait until this is over.. we are throwing money at basically whoever we see these days. Or that's how it feels, anyway. The worst part of that is that so far, the only tangible thing we've gotten out of this outpouring of money is a little spiral-bound report of our inspection today. Not really something that I would pay much to own under normal circumstances.

Also, as of this afternoon, we also have a moving date: February 4. If all goes according to schedule. And I have almost nothing on my mind other than this.
