at least we have boxes
Jan. 28th, 2006 11:30 pmMy parents came down today to bring us some boxes. My parents being my parents, they couldn't just pile a couple of boxes in the back of the car and come on. That would be totally not their style. Instead, they brought this:
*boggle* And here we were worried that we wouldn't have enough boxes to move properly in one trip without unloading and repacking. Actually, the boxes came from my uncle, who works at a factory that does.. I dunno. Something with ball bearings. As a result, these are boxes that are.. for ball bearings. They are the highest-quality cardboard boxes either of us have ever seen. Actually, each box is three boxes fit together in such a way as to only be one box.. it's impossible to describe but these suckers are incredibly sturdy. There are about twenty of them, and will probably be able to get more if we need them. That's quite a relief.. boxes so far have been hard to come by. They also brought a stack of old newspapers for wrapping stuff (much needed) and some shrink-wrapping plastic and a large roll of papery-plastic disposable tablecloth. Then my mom helped me pack. We made a lot of progress, which I'm pretty happy about. Moving is such a pain. I have terrific parents.
Since my parents still hadn't been able to look at our house, M called the realtor to ask if he could possibly open it for us since "the in-laws" were down today. He graciously agreed.. I hate calling people at the last minute and expecting them to do stuff. As it was, this was really bad timing because his daughter was playing a ball game that he didn't expect them to win, but when they lost, he found out that it was a double-elimination thing and she had another game at five in Richmond. (Which is.. I dunno. Over an hour from here, I would say.) He was totally late, thanks to us, which I felt bad about.
Anyway, we decided to consolidate the visit into the final walk-through, as they have finished with the repairs and cleaning, and we were planning on meeting him Monday afternoon for that. It looks so nice! Which, they left an old mattress that they should have taken but I suspect they thought we wanted it for some unknown reason. We did ask them to leave a few of the things in the basement. No idea what we're going to do with that. And the realtor mentioned being out there for the appraisal, and it appraised for several thousand dollars more than we paid for it, which is always a good thing. My parents were pleased that they got to see the house, and I think they liked it. Especially my mom.. my dad is a little harder to read about this house thing because he's worried about his baby acquiring a debt and monthly payments. :) However, he didn't find any single structural item worth complaining about, even though he was clearly inspecting the place thoroughly, and he only pointed out cosmetic issues. So I think that was a good sign in itself.
M has to work tomorrow, so somehow I feel like this has been Sunday and tomorrow is my Monday off. Given that I don't actually have Monday off this week, it's kind of nice to have the feeling that this has been a three-day weekend even if it isn't. I will be working on Mosaic Minds, and hopefully I'll get everything finished. I really don't want to have that hanging over my head while I'm signingmy life my massive fortunes away on Tuesday afternoon!
